Picture of Hazel played by Phoebe Tonkin! Hope you guys liked who I picked

Hazel Aria Peters

I saw Avery walking to where Connor and I were sitting. "I didn't know you nose was that bad! Is your nose feeling better?" I ask.

"Nope. I'm going to have a mountain on my nose for about two weeks. I'm surprised they didn't send me home." Yesterday, after Avery got her nose broken, she got sent home. Connor and I haven't seen her nose until now.

"I think we should join the cheer squad," I suggested.

"The cheer squad? Are you out of your mind?!" We are at lunch with Avery sitting beside me and Connor in front of us.

"It will look good on college applications when we apply next year. Cheerleading is all about school and team spirit. The school will probably like that and we have to have as much activities as we can. The more the better chance we have of getting in."

"We still have a lot of time to worry about college," Avery says.

Connor joins in and says, "I think you guys would make great and beautiful cheerleaders."

We both blush.

"Um, uh. I guess we can give it a try." Avery finally says. So that's all it took? For Connor to say it?

"Cheerleading tryouts are tomorrow after school," I say victoriously.

We continue to chat about random stuff like college, traveling the world and The 100, my favorite t.v. show.

All of a sudden, Rebecca "trips" and her lunch lands all over Avery. Avery immediately stands up and glares at Rebecca.

"Oops," Rebecca says obviously guilty. She brings her hand up to her face as if in shock and giggles. She doesn't have a trace of being sorry on her face. Sorry, I'm a klutz." She shrugs and walks away.

"Bitch." Avery whispers as she sticks up the middle finger at Rebecca behind her back.

"Are you okay, Avery?" Connor asks. Sometimes when he is worried or is having a good time with other people, I get a bit jealous. I know it's just him and who he is, but still. This is one of those times.

"Yeah. Fine," she says as she takes off a piece of spaghetti off of her hair once she has sat back down.

"I know she is mean and all but you must have done something for her to do that. She is just mean in general but she is especially mean to people who wrong her. What happened, Avery? "

"In the hallways yesterday, I bumped into Rebecca and things got a little bad. Hence my broken nose."

"I thought you said that you broke your nose by slipping in the bathroom and hitting your nose on a sink. But now that I think of it, it is a pretty ridiculous story."

"And now since Rebecca got cheer captain this year, she will never allow us in. Sorry Hazel."

"It doesn't hurt to try. Anyways we've got to get to class, Avery. We'll see you after school."

"Okay. Wish me luck in P.E."

"Good luck!" Connor says. Coming from him, to her it probably means the bestest luck. Connor and I start walking the opposite direction of Avery. Every time I'm alone with Connor I get butterflies. Technically we aren't alone in a hallway filled with students.

"Hey, babe." I fell an arm go around my shoulder. I look to my left to see Kevin. He has blonde surfer hair with a muscular body. He is kind of popular and has had a crush on me since eighth grade. He isn't afraid to show it either.

"I'm not your babe," I say. I don't exactly feel annoyed by him. I actually enjoy his company, though his flirty comments sometimes do get a bit annoying.

"Yeah," Connor says firmly. "She is not you babe." He removes his hand from my shoulder.

"A jealous boyfriend or just a crush?"

"No!" I say too quickly. "We're just friends. Nobody has a crush on anybody here. We think each other as friends." If I didn't say anything then Connor would think I liked him. Which I do but that's beside the point. I'm not Kevin. I actually do care if my crush knows I like him.

"I'll see you in class, Hazel." He walks ahead of us.

"Huh? What's that about," I wonder.

Kevin chuckles, sighs and says, "You're so cute. He has probably heard too much and doesn't want go hear it."

"What are you talking about?" He starts walking backwards in front of me. He says, "He has a secret. You'll find out sooner or later." He winks and walks off to his class. I make it just in time for class. I take a seat next to Connor, which he saved for me."

The teacher begins, "Welcome to the second day of prison, students. I know you think that the first week of school is settling in but you're wrong. You will all hate me but you have your first project."

There are groans and protests hear throughout the room.

"You will work in partners. You and your partner of your choice will pretend to be married. You will work out the expenses, which is where math comes in. Each of you will have a different cost of house, cost of car. Some of you might have car insurance. Some of you might be pregnant and are in college. Some of you might have two kids and have graduated from college. Get into partners please." Connor and I are always partners so we didn't move as we were already next to each other.

"One per partner, will randomly reach into his bucket," he shakes the bucket in his hand. "And pull out a folded piece of paper. Your life are inside these papers."

Once we pull out a paper, Connor and I read what our "life together" will be like. I just noticed how we will be or pretend to be together.

"What does the paper say?" Connor asks. He reads the paper but I barely hear anything as I'm still trying to wrap my head around this project.

"I guess I've proposed to you and have bought a ring worth ten thousand dollars. I must really love you if I spend that much."

"Love me? Right in the project. Apparently the bigger the engagement ring, the higher chance your marriage will fail."

"Why?"

"Because then probably thinks the woman will say no if the ring is small, which mean she is probably in it for the money. Eventually one of them will realize it's not true love and will end it. If it's small then the woman probably would care if the ring was plastic as long as she gets to spend the rest of her life with him. But I don't really know the reason."

"Interesting."

By the end of class, Connor is having problems understanding. Algebra. Always have. "Do you mind if you come over tonight or tomorrow to help me? I don't want to have a bad grade especially since college is so close."

"Yeah. Definitely." The bell ring and we walk out. "I'm free today. Should we start right away after school?"

"Sure, works for me. Could we go to the coffee shop or something before we start to study? I can't study on an empty stomach."

"Yeah. I'll drop Avery off at home and we'll head to Grandma's Gingerbread's house." I smile. "See you later." I start walking to my next class alone when I realize that this might be a date. And then I think of Avery.

Thank you guys so much for reading! I'm so sorry for not updating for a month. I've been working on my book on my account called One Night Stand = Pregnant. Go check it out!

•What do you guys think of trying out for cheerleading? How do you think that'll go?
•What did Kevin mean that Connor has a secret. *Hint: Connor walking off is connected.*
•Should Hazel tell Avery about their "date" or kept it a secret. Avery does like Connor...
