I don't remember when I fell asleep but I woke up with my heart racing and my head pounding.
The push.
The fall.
The car lights.
I relived the events of that night in my nightmares and it all came crashing down on me. Where was I? What was happening? Where is he? Where is he?
"Arfan?" I patted around the blankets trying to find him in my dazed state but he wasn't there. "Arfan!"
Where did he go?
Panic stirred in my chest. Did I dream last night? Were we married or was that my imagination? Did he hold me close before I drifted off to sleep or was that my mind playing tricks? I knew it was all too good to be true.
I heard the hospital door creak open but I was too preoccupied rummaging through streets trying to find any trace of him.
"Faurah," Arfan's voice was filled with confusion and concern. He ran up to me at the bed, placing his hands on my cheek to look into my eyes. "What's wrong? I'm right here." I broke out in a sob and he sat on the bed, pulling me close, rocking my body in rhythm with his and he whispered in my ear. "Shh, it's okay, I'm here. I'm not leaving."
One of his hands were wrapped around me while the other caressed my hair. "Please don't go anywhere." I whispered between sobs.
"I'm sorry, I should've told you I was stepping out the room but I'm here now. I won't go anywhere." He hushed, "what's wrong, what happened?"
"I had a bad dream. I thought you had gone, I thought you had left me."
He pulled me back so he had a clear view of my face. Embarrassment stung in my head as I looked away but I wasn't given the chance when he once again raised my face with his hands so I had no option but to look up at him. "I'll never leave you, Faurah. I was just talking with the nurse just now. She gave me the all clear for taking you home." He smiled. "I can finally take you away from this place. I can take you home with me."
I sniffled, my smile reaching from ear to ear and jumped forward squeezing him in an air-tight embrace. "Really? I can't wait to go home. I hate it here," I looked down at my hospital gown and then back at him, "I just want to be with you."
He smiled down at me before giving my forehead a kiss. "Let's get the papers so you can be discharged then."
