"The client database is acting a little funny today, Iman," Janice, the newest addition to the IT family at Faith Multinational Industries (FMI) pointed out.
I glanced over at her computer and see that the document has multiple gaps between names and contacts. "If you click on the right side symbol next to the small blue icon, it should highlight the boxes and you'll be able to delete what shouldn't be there. Ask Arthur to double check it for you once you're done," I directed while pointing towards her computer screen.
I walked away from the main area where all of my subordinates were working hard and enter my personal office with a huge stack of paperwork staring lovingly back at me. I sighed and slumped into my office chair ready to start working through the papers.
After around an hour of working my phone pinged and I see Haroon's name light up my screen.
I'm sorry - Haroon
I suddenly felt excitement buzz through me. Maybe this was the first step towards me and Haroon having a more mature relationship. If he apologised then maybe I'd just been letting my mind doubt him too much but something was still nibbling away at me.
Where were you, you still haven't told me - Iman
I met up with a friend beforehand. He needed help with his car - Haroon
Why didn't you just tell me when we were at the cafe? - Iman
There's no need for you to know everything Iman - Haroon
I rolled my eyes and put my phone away. I knew it was too good to be true so I let myself be consumed by work.
After my shift, I walked back to my car feeling stressed and pained at the same time with the heavy work load and Haroon running around my mind in the worst way imaginable. Had he really been with his friend? That's not something to hide. Was I just so mean that he thought I'd be upset for him meeting up with his friend beforehand?
I felt my foot get catch on something and tripped forwards, stumbling onto the rocky outdoor ground in the employee car park while lost in thought. I had papers in my hands that were scattered all around me and I rushed to collect them all together.
I saw red stains on the pages and notice a deep wound on my hand. As soon as my eyes laid on it my hand began to sting and the pain struck me with full force. In that split second of shock from thinking everything was fine to the cut, I let go of the papers I was holding and watch them this time fly off with the wind. I hate blood. The thought of it has always made me queasy.
I heard footsteps running up behind me and then a figure dressed in black running past. The man reaches out after the pages that flew away and grasps them all with ease. He turns around but has his focus on neatening the sheets together in a little pile. "You should really be taking your job seriously, Faurah."
He finally lifted his eyes from the paper to look at me and rushed to my aid. He grabbed my hand and started to inspect the cut on my hand. The pages were once again all scattered and soaring through the breeze as he inspected all the blood that is smeared on my hands and the little that has dripped onto the pebbled floor. "It's not as bad as it looks," I shrugged really not knowing how bad it was since I refused to look at it after the very first glance I had taken.
"It's stained your clothes and you've managed to get it on your face-"
"Keep going and I'll puke on you, Arfan." I said while squeezing my eyes shut and trying to think of something else.
"Let me help you," he mumbled, grabbing my shoulders and leading me into the building, "You can open your eyes."
I violently shook my head 'no', "you just want to be puked on, don't you?"
He let out a small laugh, one that sent the vibrations from his chest down through his arm and rumbling it's way down my shoulders. Maybe it's how much I'm panicking or God knows but I felt giddy. So giddy that I made dua my cheeks weren't blushing but even if they were he might mistake it for more blood that I've just smeared on my cheeks.
Just then, with that though, I puked.
