6 : MYOSOTIS

I enter the emergency room, feeling refreshed and all smiles after spending the weekend with my most favourite person in the world. For the past two days, I tried to forget everything that has transpired last Friday — tried to forget Taehyung's reappearance in my life. Putting my coffee and messenger bag down on the nurse's station's countertop, I look for Dr. Tang, the interim chief of the Emergency Department.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Kim. He called in earlier and said he will be running late. He has to send off his in-laws at the airport this morning," a nurse informs me.

I nod, understanding. "It's okay. I'll just come back later."

"By the way, Dr. Kim, Dr. Park is not available for today, and there's an OPD patient waiting for him. I already told him Mujin-ssi's not on duty and that we have other available doctors to check up on him, but he insists on only seeing Dr. Park."

    "Alpha?" I guess.

    The nurse sighs a yes.

    "Where?"

"There." The nurse gestures at the middle-aged man lying stiffly on his back in one of the hospital beds. "The patient's name is Seo Ah-in."

"Let me see his charts from Dr. Park's reports."

"He's actually scheduled to come back tomorrow for his CT results. Results are already in his charts," the ER nurse supplies as she passes the tablet to me.

"Alright. Let's check this one," I mumble, pursing my lips as I read his charts. I approach the male alpha patient while releasing a little of my calming pheromones so as not to irk him. "Good morning, Mr. Seo. I'm Dr. Kim Seokjin. Nice to meet you."

"You're not Dr. Park," he grumbles with a frown.

I smile down at him, emphasizing, "But I'm as capable as Dr. Park Mujin, too. The earlier you will allow us to help you, the earlier we gotta know what's going on, do you get me?" The male continues to grumble incoherently before he slowly nods his head. "So I understand you've got some new onset back pain?"

"Yeah, but it's not too bad. It's nothing you need to make a fuss about."

"Well, fuss is kinda our thing here," I chuckle. "You see, it looks like your CT shows an aortic dissection, which means you've got a tear on the inside of your vessel wall. Do you have any tingling in your arms?"

    "None."

"Any palpitations, funny feelings in your chest?"

"Nothing," Mr. Seo grunts. "Seriously, I'm good to go. My wife is just paranoid... persuading me to come here."

"You might be right. It looks like the tear is small, so if we can get you stabilized, we should be able to send you home to follow up with Dr. Park tomorrow," I tell him.
