Jack

Jack was displeased, to say the least. His target had woken up and taken off running. She almost escaped him, too. He had managed to catch up to her, dragging her into a nearby alley and hastily swiping his scalpel across her throat. He had just cut her open when it happened. The sound of clattering objects at the alley's opening had him frozen. Looking up from the body, he took in the sight before him: a woman, completely unaware of his presence as she attempted to gather her things back into her bag. He hadn't even heard her approaching; he'd been so distracted. Quietly, he shuffled the body under the dumpster beside him and jumped the wall at the back of the alley.

He almost left the scene. He had no interest in sticking around to risk being caught. That was, until he heard a loud yelp coming from the alley. He peered over the wall, watching the woman scurry away from the body.  His face turned in disgust when she vomited against one of the other walls. He dipped back behind the wall and walked around the other side, continuing to observe the woman. Being closer now, he could examine her more closely. She was pretty. Too bad he was about to kill her.

He watched, thoroughly entertained, as she frantically hung up on the 911 operator, still utterly oblivious to his presence. He drew his scalpel from his pocket and silently crept up behind her while she attempted to calm herself down. His blood rushed as he approached her; her scent was intoxicating. He was going to enjoy feasting on her. He was damn near salivating at the thought.

She froze suddenly, undoubtedly sensing his company behind her. He grinned beneath his mask, savoring the overwhelming scent of her fear. His excitement, however, was interrupted by the sound of sirens tickling the periphery of his hearing.

Already?  He thought. The cops were still a few blocks away, but that was still way too fast. They must've been in the area already. Jack's grin turned to a frown, and he straightened. He looked down at the woman, towering above her now, while she still stood frozen, too afraid to turn to face him. He guessed this was his own fault. It was his kills that had the police on their toes, and it was his mistake that led to this body being discovered by this woman. He would just have to track her down later to finish the job.

As the sirens drew closer, Jack slipped back into the shadows. He watched from a distance while the woman spoke to the police. He recognized the older officer; he was on the news, discussing the murders. It seemed like he was the leading investigator. Jack had never seen his partner before, though. He appeared to be around the same age as the woman. His sleeves were rolled up, showing off the tattoos that covered his arm. Jack watched, unimpressed, as the young officer eyed up the woman while she gave her statement. He seemed to be flexing his muscles to attempt to get her attention.

Jack almost felt bad for the girl. This cop was almost certainly not taking her seriously. He supposed human men only thought about one thing. He was sure he was the same way before whatever the hell happened to him. He shook his head. Trying to remember anything about that gave him a headache. He directed his attention back to the woman and the cops. They were getting into the cruiser. As they pulled off, Jack stood and started in the same direction, keeping his distance.

---

Jack was getting bored. The young officer's attempts to flirt were pitiful. Jack doubted this guy would care in the slightest when he arrived at your murder scene. He was almost tempted just to leave. He didn't really think that the woman was a threat to him. He wasn't even entirely sure why he followed them all the way here. It's not like she saw him or anything.
