the rain continued to patter against the windowpanes as ricky stood in front of wanyi's house

seeing her in such a hurful state after the rumours had ignited a protective instinct within him

taking a deep breath, he raised his hand to knock on the door

he wasn't sure what he was going to say, but he just wants to see her

the door swung open, and there she was, her eyes reflecting a mixture of surprise and gratitude

"r-ricky?" she said softly, her voice carrying a blend of emotions that tugged at his heart

"uh- hey" he replied, his gaze gentle as he met her eyes "i just wanted to check up on you to make sure you're ok" he said avoiding eye contact with the girl

"im..good what about you?"

"this is'nt about me..you know, the rumours could've affected you and i just thought i-"

"ohhh.. the rumours.. and you cared to check up on me?" wanyi's lips curved into a small smile

"no- zhanghao sent me here" ricky said hesitating to admit his true feelings wanting to keep his pride

"oh.. still, come on in it's going to rain"

as he entered her house, he couldn't help but notice how the surroundings seemed to mirror the grayness of the day

yet, her presence was like a beacon of light, dispelling the gloom and filling the space with a warmth that was uniquely hers

"where's minghao"

"oh he's over at a friend's"

"damn your brother left you here alone?"

"nah im used to it, but if there's emergency he told me to just call him"

ricky nodded with his hands in his pocket, observing the interior of her house

some lights were on while some were dimly lit creating an ideal ambiance as the gray clouds and fog veiled the external light

hanging on the walls were some very formal looking photoshoots of their family portrait consisting of their mom and dad, with the siblings

a small faint smile curved up on his lips when he saw wanyi smiling for the camera

as much as he wanted to ask where her parents were right now, he thought it'd be kind of personal to ask

"are the rumours affecting you though" ricky said curious to hear her response

"it did at first because people believed it, but hao reassured that the truth will eventually come out so.."

"yeah.. eventually" he said softly as he nodded, wanyi watched his cool demeanor secretly admiring his figure, questioning how someone can be so beautiful

"what" ricky caught her staring at him and wanyi quickly averted her eyes from him and cleared her throat

"u-uh.. im glad you came! i was just about to make food, let's bake something and we'll watch a movie"

"i can't bak-"

"nOPE! didn't you come here to make sure im good"
