When I laid down to sleep the same night I was still thinking about him and how he just knew my name.
I mean, was that even normal? I know a lot of people by name even though I have never spoken to them before but that's only because I hear their names a lot during class or something so I can't help it if I memorize it. Was he the same? Our classes never associate so I see no way of that ever happening.
I pulled the covers closer as I curled up with only one thought in mind before I fell asleep. This is seriously getting creepy.
The next time I saw him was the following morning and I was so not prepared.
I was yawning sleepily as I waited for the train to arrive which had subjected me to along with a few others to stand out in the cold. I was seriously freezing and just lost in thought about all the assignments I had to due that week when suddenly someone tapped my shoulder.
Okay let me just put this out there, I'm a very jumpy person so when something just suddenly happens I freak the hell out especially when I'm not expecting it.
You guys probably think I'm joking but I'm serious. I seriously am.
So of course this particular moment was no different, the sudden unexpected contact made me jump at least one feet into the air while I flailed my arms as some kind of mechanical defense and screamed my head off.
I swear to god that little tap made my heart pound painfully against my rib cage and adrenaline to rush. I think I could have fought a thousand men at that moment, that was how pumped I was as I glared at my attacker.
It was him, I should have known, Marcus whatever-his-last-name-is, was laughing his ass off as he clutched his stomach. Jackass.
"Don't scare me like that," I said indignantly. "Jesus Christ have some tact man."
"And you should be more aware of your surroundings-" his sentence fell short as he couldn't contain his laughter. "If you're gonna react like that. I mean I see no 'tact'."
He made air quotes as he continued to snicker. Did I mention that he was being an absolute ass?
"You lucky I didn't push you onto the tracks in self defense," I muttered. "What kind of person sneaks up on people like that?"
"Fyi I just walked up to you so I'm not in the fault here," Marcus argued and I didn't like how he was right. "Besides you were totally out of it there, so what's up?"
I sighed. "School, IB, you know just life."
I was being overdramatic and I knew it. But doesn't that make the world more interesting and fun?
"A lot of hand ins?" He smiled sympathetically. "I know the struggle."
"Yeah and it's so not fair," I went onto complain about it till the train arrived.
"Oh wow you really do have a lot to do this week," Marcus mused as they boarded the train.
"A lot can't define how much it is I've to do," I sighed dramatically.
"Oh don't worry you will get through it somehow," he said as he started to look around for some seats.
I bounced after him feeling better about my massive problems (okay they may not seem big to you but they were to me) after he listened to me. The guy was a good listener that's for sure.
"So what about you? How's your week?" I asked in the hopes of making small talk. There were no open seats so we had settled for standing next to the door. What did I really expect on an early Monday morning right after the holidays? There were were rarely any empty seats at this time of the day.
"Luckily my teachers weren't so hard on us so I've only have one assignment this week," Marcus grinned goofily and I wanted no more than to wipe that smile right of his face. "Sweet right?"
"Lucky bastard," I muttered under my breath and he wasn't meant to hear but he did.
"Oh you swore!" His eyes widened in mock surprise as he covered his mouth melodramatically making me roll my eyes.
"Okay I might look like a saint but that doesn't mean I'm one," I retorted sarcastically.
"Oh I didn't know you saw yourself that way," he drawled making my blush out of embarrassment. "So do you to church every Sunday or what?"
"N-no!" I half shouted in reply to his earlier statement as well as his question. "I don't see myself that people just call me that, okay? I just don't."
My words came out all jumbled together and I felt very awkward and ashamed. Bastard.
"I know I was just teasing," he smiled reeling a little bit backwards as the train stopped notifying that we had reached a stop.
In that moment when I saw him reeled backwards barely having any balance I felt like pushing him so he would fall over but as the good natured person I was I refrained from taking my embarrassment out on him.
The train doors opened allowing the passengers to get off. I have always found the streaming masses of people intimidating. I mean who wouldn't? If they set their minds to it they could easily trample someone or sweep them away for that matter.
We backed away from the doors and I pressed myself against the wall making room for people to get pass and preventing myself from being swept away. My efforts were fruitless, I could feel myself getting pulled along with the flow when someone suddenly pulled me back.
I stumbled backwards and looked up only to stare into Marcus' eyes. They weren't anything special but they held a certain welcoming warmth that sucked me in.
"Whoa there," he chuckled his eyes twinkling. "Hold on."
People started to board the train the moment every person who was getting off were gone. This time the process was much milder and peaceful.
Marcus let go of my arm but instead placed his hand on my back. It was such a soothing gesture that I almost leaned up against him.
"Hey look there are some open seats," he grinned before he set off towards the open seats he mentioned, leaving me to wonder why my cheeks suddenly felt so hot.
