Otter couldn't remember the smell of her old home. The foggy memories of her old crate were soon replaced by the familiar smell of Man who she soon learned was called Soap. Otter liked the smell of Soap, it was a new smell but a welcomed one.
Her new room reeked of Soap, but in a way that made her tail wag and her ears flop. When the tall man moved his hands away from her eyes, she instantly leapt into her new bed, excitedly sniffing every new scent around her. The men around her laughed and spoke in a language she couldn't quite understand, but between the garbled muttering she could hear her name.
After relaxing in her bed for a while, Soap came by with her harness. Otter stood and allowed him to gently place it over her head and lifted her paw to help him clip it in. Once it was done, she was led to the large thing she went to the shop in, she didn't know what it was called but it was loud and scary, but Soap would keep her safe. After a little while of moving, she was let out of the thing and her paws felt something hard, she lowered her muzzle and sniffed.
Her ears perked up and her eyes wandered, it smelt just like the kennels! Full of dogs and people, and Otter liked dogs and people. Her tail wagging, she looked back at Soap for permission before sprinting into the large fenced off area.
"Slow down, lassie." Soap chuckled, slipping her lead into one of his many pockets. Otter was sprinting into the dog park and Soap was sure he'd never seen a happier dog in his life. As he wandered into the park, his eyes never leaving Otter, he found his way onto a small bench. It was just off to the side, under the shade of a large willow tree and had the perfect view of the whole park.
To the left was an obstacle course with a pack of dogs running it excellently, clear proof of their training. Well, most of them. There was also a small pug who, despite his short legs, was trying his very hardest to keep up with the other dogs.
The right side had a large swimming pool filled to the brim with labradors, each one gripping a different toy in their mouth and tails wagging so hard Soap was sure they might just take flight.
The middle was a mix of dogs and owners, some kids holding puppies and some older people wandering slowly with grey muzzled dogs, their tails wagging slowly and each step slower than the last.
He clicked his tongue, standing.
"Otter! C'mere girl."
Otters ear perked up and she quickly made her way to Soap, another german shepherd following closely behind with a young woman trailing the pair.
Otter and the other dog were playing as they ran, chasing eachother and nipping the other gently. Soap had been worried about how Otter would behave around other dogs but seeing the pair play and tustle eased his nerves greatly. The young woman walked up, "Hey! Haven't seen you around here before. I'm Jenna, thats my girl Tasha."
Soap offered her his hand, "John. Your dogs a beauty."
"Thanks!" Jenna chuckled, shaking his hand. "Yours is too, whats her name?"
"Otter," he replied with a smile, "she's great."
Jenna smiled lightly and turned to face the pair, "They get on great, how long have you had her?"
Soap scratched his beard in thought, "A couple weeks by now."
She seemed shocked, "A couple weeks? Her recoil is amazing, did you do her training?"
Soap blushed lightly at the compliment, "Yeah, shes a military working dog so lots of training ahead of us."
Jenna nodded with a smile and the pair continued to make polite conversation until they had to leave. Otter was very hesitant to let Tasha go as the pair had been playing for near on two hours now, chasing eachother around the whole park, but after some dramatics Otter finally let Tasha go and followed Soap to the car, hopping in the passengers seat.
By the time they'd gotten back to base, Otter was exhausted and very quickly collapsed by Soap on the sofa, falling asleep to soft head scratches and the calming voice of her person.
