Chapter V: Zora
Zora stared into Aubrey's eyes. Her pupils were thin slits running vertical through her bright green eyes. Like a cats. Zora might have laughed, if not for the sharp fangs that gleamed dangerously right below them.
"So you are the one responsible for all the violet storms and such in my dreams." Zora stated more than asked.
"We've been through this Zora, they're not dreams, they're more like...visitations." Ella chirped.
Neither Aubrey nor Zora acted as if they heard her.
Aubrey's bright green eyes narrowed to horizontal slits, then she hissed a slew of angry sounding words towards Ella. The language was brutal. Short swipes of words with strange abrupt sounds following what Zora assumed was the end of each sentence.
Ella's skin had gone a sickly pale yellow since her ordeal, which made it very easy for Zora to see her blushing. Whatever Aubrey had said to her, had not been for the faint of heart. Ella responded back to Aubrey and Aubrey responded with a smirk that looked very sinister (Zora chose to assume it was just the teeth). She tried, but failed, to catch a common word in their language and they continued to speak. However though the two magical beings were obviously speaking the same language, for whatever reason they both spoke it with different fluidity, making it practically impossible for her to pick anything up. Aubrey spoke in forceful and chopped connotations, as if fighting with her words. While Ella sounded more like she were counting for a dance. Transitioning between the words with more grace. Zora doubted that even Tryston could pick up anything from their conversation.
Though he probably could. She thought annoyed.
Zora studied Ella carefully during the back and forth. Finally asking,
"Are you going to be alright?"
Interrupting another one of Aubrey's supposed corrective tirades.
Ella tried smiling, failing to get her cheeks to rise, it came across more as a wince.
"I will recover." She said poorly.
It was enough to placate Zora, since she now knew nobody could lie in this place.
Zora stood as tall as she could, forcing herself once again to lock eyes with Aubrey, though she spoke to both of them;
"So are either of you going to tell me what just happened? Why was that creature speaking with the voice of a human pirate? Whom I can only assume is dead or worse off."
One of Aubrey's ears twitched in what Zora picked up as agitation. Obviously this feline fatale was not used to having anyone ask her questions so forcefully. An added ripple of tension running down Aubrey's already taut muscles gave Zora the inkling to take a cautionary stance. Her hands twitched, hungry for a dagger or sword to cling to, but she knew she carried none. Her eyes flickered to the golden sword swung across Aubrey's back, wondering as to her chances to procure the weapon from the female warrior.
Ella broke the tension,
"Dörsdäuðr" she whispered and what little yellow tinge she had, faded into a pale blue.
She looked like she was about to cry. Aubrey's furry jawline visibly clenched in anger and she spat to her side (Zora was almost disappointed it wasn't purple as well).
Zora broke her standoff with Aubrey after Ella spoke the alien word and looked down at her poor form,
"I'm not gonna pretend like I know what you said, but I'm guessing it means that thing was trying to kill you?"
