Walking to the Little Daisy, an uneasy feeling clenches at my stomach. My mind races, searching for the right words to say. Turning a corner, I spot smoke and my heart races. I sprint towards the source, which turns out to be the Little Daisy. As I attempt to rush inside, an unknown person restrains me. Helplessly, I watch the building collapse into a pile of ashes. Suddenly, I feel something pressed against my head, and the sound of a gunshot jolts me awake.
Louis: AH!
Gasping for breath, I find myself in my bed. It was just a nightmare. Climbing out of bed, I walk to my mirror and lock eyes with my reflection, contemplating what to say to Mitzi when I see her later today.
Louis:...
After a brief shower, I dress and step outside. The sun is shining, and the sight of people out and about brings a smile to my face. With my hands tucked into my pockets, I start walking towards the Little Daisy. Turning the corner, I glance up and see no sign of smoke, a wave of relief washing over me. Taking a deep breath, I continue walking towards the building. As I reach the entrance, I spot the car pulling into the garage. Deciding to enter through the garage, I slip inside. Rocky and Freckle emerge from the car, talking amongst themselves. I can't resist the urge to playfully startle them.
Rocky: He should be here soon.
Freckle: I hope so.
Sneaking up behind them, I break into a grin.
Louis: Boo!
Their startled reactions amuse me, and I burst into laughter. Rocky playfully lands a punch on my shoulder.
Rocky: Don't do that.
Louis: Okay, I won't.
Freckle: You feeling better?
Louis: Yeah. Still a bit down, but aside from that, I'm okay.
Rocky wraps me in a hug.
Rocky: I missed you.
Louis: I missed you too.
With that warm exchange, we start walking toward the bar. Despite a lingering sense of unease, I push myself to continue. Arriving at the bar, we spot Ivy engaged in conversation with Viktor. Clearing my throat, I capture their attention. Ivy rushes over, embracing me in a hug. When she lets go, I shift my gaze to Viktor, who appears visibly angry by my presence.
Ivy: It's great to see you back, Louis.
Louis: It's great to be back.
My gaze lingers on Viktor, but he avoids eye contact as he goes about his bartender duties. I then turn to Rocky and Freckle.
Louis: Do you guys know where Mrs. M could be?
Freckle: Most likely up in her office.
Louis: Thank you.
I hastily leave the room but then promptly return, realizing I don't actually know where her office is.
Rocky: I'll take you there.
Rocky leads me to a stairway.
Rocky: Up these stairs and it's the first day on the right.
Louis: Thank you.
Following Rocky's guidance, I locate the door to Mitzi's office. Hesitation grips me, and I contemplate fleeing before she answers. However, I gather my resolve and knock on the door. My palms are sweaty as I clasp them, anxiously waiting. When Mitzi opens the door, I manage a feeble smile, but her teary eyes tell me that the wounds from Atlas's passing are still fresh. I move forward for a hug, but Mitzi turns away and retreats into her office without a word. I follow her into the office, but she avoids eye contact, leaving me with a sense of unease. I attempt to convey my feelings.
Louis: I missed you, Mitzi.
She turns slightly in my direction, her expression still distant.
Louis: You saved me; please allow me to save you.
Her eyes fill with tears, and she finally turns around. I open my arms for a hug, and this time, she accepts it, clinging to me as her emotions pour out. We stand there for multiple seconds before we stop hugging.
Mitzi: Thank you, Louis.
That day, I made a solemn promise to Mitzi. I vowed to stand by her side, to support her through any hardship, even if it meant facing hell itself. She's become like a mother to me, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
