Date : May fifth
A Day Detail : Atsushi's birthday; probably a birthday party

════════

That's how the day was written in Kunikuda's notebook. The blond had everything written down there. So is everyone's birthday at the agency. I mean... Except for one. Dazai's birthday. But that was already one of the agency's secrets. Maybe one day he'll be able to fill the page to the end.

But as the note indicated. They were organizing a party. They did something like this every time. Kenji, of course, with the greatest desire, took care of the decorations. Yosano and Kyōka ordered food. The Tanizaki siblings tried to put up a giant "Happy Birthday" sign. Ranpo took care of technical matters. Even Fukuzawa was helping, although there was little left to do.

Kunikida nodded appreciatively, seeing how everything was ready. The gifts were in the right place. The tables were set up. Perfectly.

...It would be perfect if not for one detail.

"WHERE IS DAZAI?!!" Kunikida shouted, not seeing his partner anywhere. Atsushi was about to come, but he was nowhere!

"You know he doesn't like... Birthdays. Any birthday parties at all" Yosano sighed as she placed the last bowls of food on the table.

"He's not so selfish as to not come to Atsushi's birthday, is he?!" he replied, visibly annoyed by his behavior. Maybe he could handle his aversion to parties, he could handle the constant jokes about suicide. But not to come to your ward's birthday? It was too much even for Dazai.

"I'm sure Dazai-san will be coming soon" Tanizaki replied, stepping down from his chair after hanging up the sign.

"Exactly!" Naomi agreed, stepping closer to the group.

"He wouldn't miss a party like that!" commented Kenji with a smile. A walking optimist.

Ranpo just watched, one of his lollipops in his mouth. He didn't need to interfere. Though he felt things were getting a little tense.

"But don't you think he..." Tanizaki added, unable to say the word that came to mind "...Surely not on Atsushi's birthday?" he added, omitting the specific word.

The rest just looked at each other, beginning to have similar thoughts. It was Dazai after all. He was capable of anything.

"No" Ranpo finally cut in "He's alive and well. I passed him today."

It may not have been visible, but the atmosphere immediately relaxed. It may not have been visible, but the atmosphere immediately relaxed. Although Kunikida was still dissatisfied with the absence of one member of the agency. Why doesn't he come for a while?

"I'm sure he'll show up soon. You don't have to worry about that" Fukuzawa finally spoke, and Kunikida let it go. He won't spoil the atmosphere.

In the last minutes, everyone was working out the last details. Until finally Kyōka went to fetch her friend. She didn't have to say anything. She just dragged the weretiger with her.

Atsushi was aware that he would get some wishes today. But he wasn't expecting a party on this occasion. And certainly not parties with every member of the agency.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" A scream rang out as Atsushi opened the office door. The boy bristled, instinctively tensing up. He didn't even have time to relax when Kenji jumped up to him with a hug. He had the impression that he was enjoying the situation more than the birthday boy himself

"Wow... T-Thank you everyone!" he mumbled as everyone began wishing him well. He'd never had a birthday party before. Things like that weren't usually organized in orphanages. There, only wishes were enough for him. So he wasn't expecting this situation here. The white-haired man didn't know how to behave either. He didn't want to do anything wrong.
