At lunch the following Monday, discussions continued regarding the opener of the World Cup amongst the boys.
Jean-Luc: "Well it doesn't matter, France is still going to win the World Cup anyways"
Mackenzie: "Nuh uh, New Zealand on top!"
The friendly banter continued around the table, with each of the guys giving their own 'expert' predictions for the winner of the tournament.
Mackenzie: "Anyways, what classes do you guys have next?"
Jack: "I have calculus"
Rusty: "I have biology, how I hate that class. She gives us work over the break, and then we
have a quiz on the first day back"
Mackenzie: "Dang, that's tough, I have team sports next"
Jean-Luc: "What do you guys even do in that class?"
Mackenzie: "You just walk a few laps, and then your pretty much free to do whatever you want"
Lucky: "So basically a free period?"
Mackenzie: "Pretty much, but it kinda sucks because I can't do anything"
Rusty: "I'll trade you"
Mackenzie: "Ha, nice try"
After more friendly banter and discussion, lunch came to an end, signaling everyone to return to their daily schedule. They all headed their separate ways, with Mackenzie walking to the gym alone. He didn't have many friends in that class, just some people he had known from growing up like Snickers and Pretzel. Upon reaching the class, Mackenzie went to sit in the bleachers while he watched everyone else.
Snickers: "Hey Mackenzie, come join us!"
Mackenzie: "Sorry, but I can't remember?"
Mackenzie pointed to the brace on his leg, which had replaced his crutches. Despite the removal of the crutches, he remained immotile.
Snickers: "Oh sorry I forgot, cya around Mackenzie"
Snickers ran off to play basketball with the other boys, leaving Mackenzie to sit without many options. He didn't have any homework, so he decided to just sit and think. While lost in his thoughts, he began to ponder his discussion with Bluey on Friday, wondering when the best time to break the news would be. He decided it would be in his best interest to wait and discuss it with Bluey first before taking any action.
The next class was geography for Mackenzie, in which he had with most of his friends. For as much as Mackenzie disliked school, he liked history and geography, because he discovered a lot of things through this subject. It also helped that Coach Weimaraner, the school's cricket coach, was the teacher, whom Mackenzie thought fondly of.
Coach Weimaraner: "Today, I am assigning you an oral report on various cities from around the world. I will allow you to pick your partners, and you will be allowed to choose which city you want to report on from a list I have created."
Scanning around the room, Lucky decided that he would attempt to be partners with Mackenzie, as this would be a good opportunity to bring them closer together again. As he turned to the border collie with his request, Mackenzie walked over to Bluey, asking her to be his partner. This hurt Lucky, but he decided his plan B would be to work with Jean-Luc, as he knows everything about everything.
The week trudged on, with Friday and the weekend finally coming at last. Recouping from the week, Mackenzie chose to unwind on Saturday by playing some video games. Lost in his thoughts as often, he forgot that he had an appointment with Bluey, at the park, to do the presentation.
