As I came to a quick halt, I gasped for air. "Angel!" I shouted out, softly tapping my chest.

My voice rang out into the darkness.
"Where have you gone? Please don't leave me!"

I yelled, straining to make out anything in my eyesight. It felt like I was rushing in a dark room that never ended.
My breath heaved as I screamed and shouted for his name.

"Hello, Nyx. I'm here." Through the darkness, I heard his voice whisper. I stretched my arms out in front of me, grabbing only air.

"Where?! Tell me!" I kept crying, my voice shaking with fear.

"Here. "I'm right behind you." His words pierced my left ear as I spun around, only to be met with darkness.

"I can't see you, Angel, don't do this!" Please! I'm terrified! "I need your support!" With sweat streaming down my forehead, I said.

"You don't." You now have him. Please turn around. He's there. " He sounded hurt this time, but his voice had a trace of a jest in it, tingling in my right ear. He seemed to be laughing at me. But why is this so?

My eyes widened as my phone rang.
My eyes darted around as I murmured "Angel" only to remember I was still resting in my same double bed in the same one bedroom flat that I couldn't call home. Wiping my brow, I recognised it had all been a dream. I hated losing him in my dream since it was so vivid.

The thought sent shivers down my spine. Angel would always be a special someone to me, no matter who I met or who I had feelings for. Someone I didn't know anything about. Someone who paid attention to me when no one else did. Someone who could hear me talk while no one else could.
Someone I'd consider a friend.
Someone who...saved me when no one else was willing.

Angel's name appeared across the screen, and I responded quickly, "hello! and good morning!" Yawning, I said.

"Angel? Wait..Nyx.." He stuttered in his words, which was perplexing.

"Are you all right?" I asked.

"I think I dialled the wrong number." I was going to call someone, but it's fine. Good morning to you too sunshine!" I could picture the perfect smile on his lips.

"Now that you've called, I just had a really strange dream about you." I said standing up and walking to the kitchen.

"Dream? What about me? "What happened?" He questioned.

'Yeah. It was about me going everywhere, looking for...you."

"Yeah. As if you were abandoning me. You said in the dream, "Well, I have him now, so...I don't need you." The final part I said quietly.

He didn't say anything. All I could hear was hushed breathing from his end. For a brief period, the silence around my ears forced me back into my dream. As though his stillness were the dream's truth. As though his silence was his way of telling me something I dreaded hearing. The room was silent for a little second, but the effect it had on me and my thoughts was enough to break me right then and there. I could feel my heart drop and tears threatening to pool around my eyes in that split second. I would have lost control of my emotions if he had remained silent for another second.

But he didn't.

"Nyx. You don't require my help. You've got me. You're not something I chose to keep for a time and then discard whenever I choose. You are a person. To me, you are someone. Someone who means a lot to me. Regardless of what or who gets in the way.'

I let out a breath I hadn't realised I'd been holding. "You know I feel the same way, right?" I asked, feeling relieved. Just because I've met someone doesn't mean I'm going to abandon you. I can't. And I'm not going to."

"I know. I know." I could sense his hesitation in his remarks. As if he hadn't planned it that way.

As though this phone call and my dream had altered his mind, I resolved to ignore the nagging thought and get ready for work.
