"Lylah! There you are." Rabastan grinned at the sight of his best friend, and pulled her into an empty train compartment.

They were finally seeing each other after the long Christmas holidays.

"Hi, Rab." She tries to smile back with just as much enthusiasm.

He frowned, immediately sensing something was wrong, "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

Her smile faltered, sighing because she knew it would be impossible to hide anything from her best friend, "I'm betrothed to Alaric Greengrass."

She held out her hand, showing him the thin gold ring, which felt heavy around her finger.

If the ring was heavy, her heart felt a hundred pounds heavier everytime she thought about Alaric, and her thoat constricted uncomfortably.

Rabastan's mouth made a 'O' shape, "Greengrass? The boy who looks like a drunken truck driver?"

"Yeah, him." Lylah nodded miserably. "Mother wouldn't take no for an answer. And father, he..."

"What did your father do?"

She willed herself to not shed a single more tear, "He tortured me for saying no, and in front of everybody — the Malfoy's as well as the Greengrasses."

"Someone stopped him, right?" Rabastan questioned, but he knew better.

Her silence confirmed his answer.

Lylah had been tortured in front of the entire Malfoy and Greengrass family, all because she refused to get betrothed to a boy who looked like a drunken truck driver.

"What about Lucius? Where was he?"

"Lucius is on a business trip to France. I wrote to him, he said he doesn't know when he'll be back. Me and Cissy really miss him."

Out of nowhere, Rabastan's eyes turned dreamy, "Y'know, it's a shame Narcissa's married. She's so beautiful and kind—"

"That's my sister-in-law you're talking about, you wanker. And anyways, I've heard enough from your wet dreams about Cissy before you figured out how to use the Muffliato spell." She smirked.

Rabastan blushed, "Well, it's not my fault you snuck into the boys' dormitories at night to sleep with Elijah Nott."

"Shut it."

"Shutting it." Rabastan promptly closed his mouth, and clamped a hand over it.

Elijah Nott swiftly entered the compartment just then. Lylah silently thanked Merlin that Elijah had not come two seconds ago.

"Hi there, Malfoy, Lestrange." He acknowledged them both with a slight smile before turning to Lylah, "Potter told me to get you. We have a prefect meeting, remember?"

"Oh, right. Sorry, it slipped out of my mind." Lylah was excited because of the fact Elijah was a prefect too.

Let's just say she snuck into his bed... very often. Sometimes, they slept with each other and some other times, they simply made out.

Lylah and Elijah were going to patrol as prefects alone. At night. With nobody interrupting.

Huh. This year had just gotten much, much more interesting.

She bid goodbye to Rabastan, and followed Nott into the Prefect Compartment. She spotted Potter and Evans — the head boy and head girl. She shot a pitying glance at Evans who was pretending to puke as Potter tried to kiss her hand, before pulling her hand from his grasp.

There was Nott and Lylah herself as the prefects from Slytherin, Greta Catchlove and Dirk Cresswell from Hufflepuff, Gilderoy Lockhart and Pandora Lestrange from Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor... she could only see Patricia Rakepick from Gryffindor.
