Tim was a 13-year-old boy who led a dull and ordinary life. He had only a handful of friends at school, and he missed his dad terribly. His dad was a brilliant scientist who had vanished mysteriously a few months ago, leaving behind a trail of blood and a strange necklace in the attic. Tim's dad used to share his research with him, showing him pictures and writings of bizarre creatures and weapons that made Tim shudder. His mom didn't approve of his dad's work, thinking it was a waste of time and money. But Tim admired his dad's curiosity and passion for the unknown.

Tim's life changed drastically after his dad's disappearance. He had to switch schools. He felt lonely and depressed, unable to fit in with his new classmates. His mom had to work long hours to pay the bills, leaving him alone most of the time. Tim had a room of his own, but it felt cold and empty. He preferred to spend most of his time in the attic, where he could sense his dad's spirit. The attic was filled with his dad's old books, tools, and memories. Tim felt closer to his dad there than anywhere else. The only bright spot in his life was his friendship with James and Sarah, the kids next door. James was a fearless and fun-loving boy who enjoyed making jokes and pranks. Sarah was an adventurous and daring girl who loved taking risks. They welcomed Tim into their group and they would hang out with them every weekend at his house. Tim felt a glimmer of hope and happiness in their company. He didn't know that soon his life would take an unexpected turn.

The school year was over and the summer holidays had just begun. Tim was sleeping soundly in the attic. Suddenly, he was jolted awake by a loud thumping in the wall near his bed. He rubbed his eyes and saw a faint glimmer of light in the room. Curious, he got up and walked towards it. The thumping grew louder and louder as if someone was pounding on the wall with a hammer. But when he reached the source, the noise stopped abruptly. He felt a strange pull towards the light, which was glowing bright orange. He reached out his hand and touched something smooth and hard.

He thought it was just a rock, but when he pulled it out, he gasped in amazement. It was a gem, sparkling with different colors. He had no idea what it was or where it came from, but he felt a connection to it. He didn't know that this gem would change his life forever. He was still pondering over this when he heard his mother calling him for breakfast. He quickly hid the rock in a chest and ran downstairs. His mom had made pancakes for breakfast. He quickly gobbled it up and went outside where his friends were waiting for him. They wanted to tell him about a mysterious disturbance in the radio signals that morning.

"Every morning, my big brother tunes in to his favorite radio station, listening to the latest news and music. But one day, something strange happened. The radio suddenly went silent, and so did the TV and other gadgets. We thought it was just a power outage in our house, but we soon realized that it was not. Every house in the neighborhood had the same problem." James recounted. "Maybe there was a glitch in the area power supply," Tim suggested. Sarah shook her head. "No, that can't be it. The news just reported that many areas across the country experienced the same phenomenon. They also said that they checked the main power sources in all those areas and found nothing wrong with them."James shrugged. "Well, maybe it's a sign from the universe that we should stop relying on technology so much and start living more naturally." He paused for a moment and then added with a grin, "Or maybe it's just aliens messing with us." He made a funny face and pretended to be an alien, making everyone laugh.

Tim wondered if it had anything to do with the gem, but he didn't tell them anything. He waited until his mother left the house and then went back to the attic. He searched online for anything about the gem, but he couldn't find anything. He had a very uneasy feeling that this rock had something to do with his father's disappearance. He took out his father's necklace which resembled the rock and tried comparing them by bringing them close. The gem started to glow brighter and brighter until there was a blinding flash of light. Then everything went dark.
