Don is absolutely not sober

Back at the Gallagher's again, we're both happy, me because the movie was as good as expected and Don because he's had a few beers too much. I steady him as we go through the door.

"Great night babe, really great night", sometimes he calls me "Babe" when he's had too much. I roll my eyes at him and wait til his dad comes. Every time Noel's home and hears us, he casually walks in the room to check if we're okay. And that's exactly what's happening now.

"Hey you two, how was it? As good as expected?" At this moment his son stumbles towards him and he catches him with one arm, with the other he steadies me, because Don hasn't let go and dragged me with him. Noel looks at him with a stern expression.

"Careful, you have to know how to handle yourself if you drink too much, after all, you've got a lady by your side who shouldn't have to watch over you every time, you're old enough."

As an answer Don just hiccups and laughs.

I clutch Noel's biceps and look at his face. Being close to him makes my heart beat faster, I let my eyes travel over his face. His hear stands straight on end to one side, so he must have been asleep. Did he get up especially for us? The laugh lines around his eyes suit him so well, his laughter is one of the most beautiful sounds. I can see a light stubble, how would it feel to touch his cheek with my hand? And finally his eyes which carry so much depth within them. As he looks from Don to me his eyes soften visibly.

"We'll bring him upstairs, he needs to sleep", Noel says and let's go of me. The loss of his touch leaves me feeling cold.

I've never been upstairs before, although I'm good friends with Don, I mostly just pick him up. I'm a few years older than him and often take him to clubs. He doesn't have a drivers license yet. Dragging him up the stairs now makes me nervous. We take him to his room and as soon as his head hits the pillow he starts snoring and I giggle.

Noel taps me on the shoulder and lets me know we should go downstairs again and let Don sleep. I start to yawn loudly as we enter the living room.

"Do you wanna sleep here today? You can sleep in one of the guest rooms, it's pretty late and I don't want you to drive so tired." He steps closer and lifts his hand as if he wants to touch my arm. However before he reaches out, he drops it again and shakes his head lightly. Does he feel the tension between us too?

Ever since I've met him, I feel a certain way about him, what the media says is wrong, he's never shouted at me or made me feel uncomfortable ever before. He swears a lot, that's true but it's more in a funny way than really serious. He's one of the kindest souls I've ever met and I think I might have a slight crush on him.

The problem is, he's got kids and is old enough to be my father...

"If it's alright I'd like to sleep on the couch, I love that thing" i say shyly. He nods.
"Thank you that's very thoughtful of you." I smile up at him and open my bun.

"When's Sara coming back?", I ask while sliding my hands through my hair.
Noel swallows slowly and his eyes dart out of the window.

"On Saturday I guess, if everything goes as planned, Dons staying at hers," he says dismissively. He's not keen on talking about his ex and I drop the topic.
