-Nine Months Ago-

The rain battered against the second highest floor of the broken building, the violent taps of the rainwater loud enough to almost drown the sound of thunder rumbling across the skyline. Ryker collapsed against a broken pillar, wrenching two bullets out of his armored sweatshirt and throwing them onto the ground.

Two 9mm rounds. Cost-efficient and deadly fast. Perfect for suppressed weapon fire. Anything larger than that, and Ryker would've likely been very dead. Still, it had been a successful assassination, being a single bullet through the chest of a noisy politician, right before the election in Nova Scotia.

Then, the resistance arrived and the gunfight began. It had only been Sagaera's plan of leveling an entire mid-level skyscraper that Ryker was able to fight his way out.

Steady footsteps of combat boots echoed behind him before a hand slapped his back, the armored man in front of him simply looking out at the city block down below before turning to Ryker. The man's voice came tired but focused, just losing its metallic edge as he pulled off his helmet.

Wyvern: Thirty-two dead so far including the VIP, with twelve White Mask casualties separate from the body count. The security took precautions, but we still managed to silence who we needed to. All because they underestimated us. Again.

The assassin took a scan of Ryker's body, quickly but thoroughly investigating for any injuries as Ryker caught his breath.

Viper: She almost got me.

Wyvern: Almost doesn't count, Ryker. She's licking her wounds on an evac chopper right now. Let her.

He turned, calmly shaking his head while eying the bullets Ryker had tossed on the ground.

Wyvern: But that doesn't change the fact she's getting more erratic. She knew she was close, and it altered her judgment. Do you know who she is?

Viper: She's a Rainbow operative. Nøkk.

With a stifled sneer, Ryker pulled himself up before sheathing his blades and standing on a drenched concrete slab overlooking the destroyed city block.

Wyvern: Here. Check the file I sent you.

Ryker looked down at his half-destroyed phone, finding a file containing several photos and a list of details about the woman.

Wyvern: Her Rainbow file's redacted everything. Pretty secretive for a lonely NATO dog.

Viper: Dog or not, she's still a killer, Kirin. A good one. This isn't her Rainbow file, though.

Wyvern: No, it isn't. These are notes from my own investigation. What's the quote she'd given Doctor Pandey?

Viper: "The only thing I feel when I pull the trigger is recoil." Is that the one? Emotional detachment can be dangerous.

Kirin smirked, ejecting the magazine of his Glock and checking the rounds remaining before ultimately slamming in a new one.

Wyvern: I agree. She's a glorified, emotionless monster. Yet I'm the one with the Most Wanted status.

The two stood over the decimated, cloudy horizon as both Wyvern and Viper received the same notification.

Wyvern: Wow. Felix is on time with our evac for once.
