2023. December 10

It's been over a month since I moved to Chicago, and the city is bustling with activity despite the cold weather. During my free time, I've been exploring the many sights and sounds this city has to offer, from its museums and theaters to its famous deep-dish pizza joints. The architecture is stunning, with towering skyscrapers and historic buildings lining the streets. Although the weather is chilly, a hot cup of coffee saves the day.

Chicago is a fast-paced city, and the streets are always crowded. I had to be careful navigating the public transportation system, but I found that the people in Chicago were friendly and helpful, and I quickly adapted to the city's lifestyle.

Chicago time is 12 hours behind Manila and 7 hours from Milan time. It's hard to communicate with my family and Yuki as our schedules conflict. Yuki and I are struggling to find a suitable time to meet because of our conflicting schedules. When it is Yuki's nighttime and he is free, I am still working, and when I am free, Yuki is already asleep. It's even more difficult with Mama and Eleine, as they are in a completely different time zone. Their daytime is my nighttime.

Only Dani, whose work time moved to the night shift, is available to talk with from time to time. However, living here makes me feel like I'm all alone and far from my loved ones. On the other hand, it's also an opportunity for me to have some time for myself.

Fortunately, it's Sunday, and Yuki's birthday will be at 5 PM in my time. It's still morning here in Chicago, and Yuki just came from his practice and will be available soon.

A few minutes after, Yuki called me. I answered, "Hello, love?"

"Good morning, Ai. How are you today?" He asked.

"I just finished my brunch, and I'm currently stretching. Thanks for teaching me, sensei," I replied, laughing.

"I'm so proud of myself. I was able to teach you something," he said, laughing too.

"How are you?" I asked.

"Just came from practice. We'll be having a match against Verona tomorrow," he replied.

"It's your birthday!" I exclaimed cheerfully.

"Yes, but the best birthday gift is not here with me," he said, sounding sad.

"I am! I'm always in your heart," I said, chuckling.

"That's true. How are you there? I know it is very cold. Please take care of yourself," he said, concerned.

I wanted to tease him and said, "It is cold indeed. No Yuki to warm my nights."

"Wait for me in seven hours. I'm going to the airport now," he replied excitedly.

We talked for two hours on video call, laughing and catching up.

"Baby," Yuki called me before ending our call.

"Yes, baby?" I replied.

"I'm sorry. I have to sleep early for our match tomorrow. I cannot stay awake until midnight to welcome my birthday with you," he said, sounding apologetic.

"Love, that's completely understandable, and I don't mind at all. You should get some rest tonight. Your health is your top priority," I reassured him.

"Thank you, Ai. Have a nice day ahead. I love you," Yuki said.

"I love you too, my Yuki! Good luck in your game tomorrow!" I replied, wishing him well.
