Chapter 2

I wake up to my own shivering, the cold air pouring through the open window. The sound of my bare feet padding across the wood floor sounds louder in the empty confines of my flat. I close it abruptly, drawing the curtains shut.

Half-asleep, I pull a pair of joggers up my legs. Slowly I make my way to the kitchen and brew a cup of tea. I drum my fingers on the island impatiently, waiting for my phone to turn on.

I hear a loud knock on the door. Rolling my eyes, I pour my cup of tea. It's probably one of those vacuum salesmen. They knock again, louder. They'll go away if I wait it out long enough. Another knock. Maybe it's a girl scout, trying to pedal some thin mints. With a slight smile on my face, I answer the door.

" Oh gosh Meghan I'm sorry," I say, letting her in. She giggles, saying its okay. I lead her into the kitchen, sitting her at the island. I toss her a bottle of water and pull out a box of vanilla wafers.

" I've only really got to unpack the things for my bedroom," I mumble, " so if you'd rather just hang around and watch a movie-"
