After everything that had happened with the Volturi, I was ecstatic to finally be able to settle down with my amazing husband, wonderful family, and most importantly, my beautiful daughter.
One look into her eyes- the very ones I used to look at in the mirror every morning before I was turned-and I knew that all the fear and planning was worth it.
Speaking of Renesme, I wondered where she was. I made my way from the forest where I had just finished hunting back to the lovely cottage Esme had designed for our little family.
I stopped short when I heard Edwards voice.
"Love, of course I miss you. I can't leave right now, you know that." Love? Just who was my "husband" talking to. I felt a growl building in my chest and reminded myself to calm down before I acted rashly. After all, this could possibly be a huge misunderstanding.
But what I heard next confirmed my suspicions to be true. Over the phone, I heard the beautiful, sing-song laugh of the Denali vampire, Tanya, who was here only a few days prior.
"Does that newborn brat never let you leave."
"Something like that." Edward chuckled.
A stronger woman would have confronted him right then and there, but in that moment, whatever strength came to me as a vampire vanished. I felt a sting in my eyes, almost as if I was starting to cry.
And I ran.
