Drabble (02): You go through your first transformation

A gust of the chilly October wind passes through the mountains, and you close your eyes to savor the calming weather, breathing in the scent of the woods and the herbs that you and Jungkook had recently planted in your backyard that now resembles a garden.

You catch yourself attempting to wrap your arms around your body, giggling at the realization that you don't actually need the warmth; you're no longer affected by the cold the way you used to.

Bearing Jungkook's mark means werewolf blood now runs through your veins, and in the few weeks since you two have been bonded, your body has slowly been changing internally - temperature and physical strength included. You haven't felt much of it, as they're gradual and subtle, all anatomical like what Baram explains that you can't really absorb. But you wake up every morning feeling differently, even if you can't pinpoint what's new.

It's tonight you're worried about, though, as the final phase of your transformation commences, with you shifting to wolf form for the first time. It's the first full moon since being bonded, which also happens to be when the Moon shines the brightest, and with the strong connection of the earth and its mystical elements on this specific night, you're told to experience the extremes - excruciating pain and an unbelievable sense of calm.

This is just based on assumption, of course, as you don't know of any human whose first transformation took place on such night. You and Jungkook are a rare occurrence, you're reminded.

You let out a deep breath, marveling at the early morning fog that you're now strong enough to witness outdoors, until you feel another warm body next to you.

"This is quickly becoming your favorite spot in the whole cabin, huh?"

Jungkook sits to your left on the steps of the porch that lead to the backyard. You like sitting in the same area at your parents' house, and out here, the world feels so still; like from here, you can watch everything move and breathe all at once.

"So far," you turn to him. "Not until the couch is more comfortable, then this is still my spot. But I know you like it, too."

"Only because you do."

Your heart flutters at his words, something that happens a lot more than usual, but he picks up another thing from your silence.

"You're nervous, aren't you?" He asks, his voice low.

Jungkook noticed you grow quieter the closer you got to today, always sitting out here on your own pensively, like you're in your own world until he bursts through it and you're smiling at him again like everything is alright.

But he could sense the internal stress and the fear over how much it's gonna hurt, because like what you've been told, it will hurt more than you can imagine. It's why Jin-Ae had visited every day the past week to help you prepare mentally, to go over every single change that your mind and body will experience, and to guide you the moment each part of it transforms into a completely different creature.

"I am," you admit. "But probably not as nervous as you are."

You nudge his shoulder teasingly. You'll never get used to seeing Jungkook being scared about anything, but you've seen his uneasy eyes and his perpetually furrowed brows; you've answered every single question of his about how you're feeling every single day; you've felt him hug you tighter than usual every morning and night. You're the one transforming and he sounds like a stage mate, seemingly more distressed than you are.

"I'm that obvious?" He chuckles, masking what he's really feeling, knowing he won't be able to fully express how scared he is to see you in pain.

He's spent the better part of the year doing that, and he really doesn't want to do it again. But he doesn't have a choice - it's a blessing and curse to be like him, after all.
