Chapter 2
Coffee and death.
As we entered the cafe, the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped us. It was a cozy place, with students huddled in corners, engrossed in their conversations or buried deep in textbooks.
We found an empty table near the corner, away from prying eyes and ears. We took a seat, Colton and Blair joined us after grabbing their respective orders.
Blair's blunt observation about the Lowell twins caught us by surprise. "The twins look like stern assholes," she remarked, her words unfiltered.
Colton, never one to hold back, chimed in with an amused grin, "Well, that was out of pocket, but I agree."
Noah raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by their candid remarks. "You both seem to have strong opinions about them."
Blair shrugged, her fingers absentmindedly playing with the many rings adorning her hands. "It's just an observation. I ran into them in the hallway, and they weren't exactly nice, to say the least."
As Blair recounted her brief encounter with the Lowell twins, it became evident that their demeanour had left a lasting impression on her.
Colton, crossing his arms, commented, "Well, the twins have a lot they are hiding. So I imagine the bad things they have done are weighing on their subconscious."
I interjected, my voice steady but quiet, careful not to be overheard, "Last year, the Lowell twins' roommate was found dead, and I have reason to think they had a hand in the crime. Her disappearance was filled with ambiguity and unanswered questions. And I would like you guys to help me get answers."
Noah and Blair exchanged a glance, their expressions a mix of surprise and concern.
The weight of the revelation seemed to settle upon our shoulders, casting a shadow over our cozy gathering.
Noah broke the silence, "If there's a chance that the Lowell twins are involved in something like this, we should investigate. But we must tread carefully and gather concrete evidence."
Blair nodded in agreement "I'm in. But I didn't know the girl so I might not be much help."
Colton, displaying a rare moment of solemnity, offered some context, "Lola was her name, the girl who died," he said with sympathy.
"She was loved, but there were things not everyone knew about her," I said glancing around the cafe to ensure that no unwanted ears were listening in on our conversation.
Lola's death was a wound that hadn't fully healed.
Blair, who had initially commented on the twins' stern demeanour, now looked excited"So, what's our plan then? How do we even begin to investigate something like this?"
"I think our first step should be gathering information discreetly. We need to find out more about Lola, her relationship with the Lowells, and any possible motives. Let's try to avoid drawing too much attention to ourselves for now" I said.
Noah, who had been relatively quiet until this point, leaned forward. "I agree with octavia. We should also keep an eye on the Lowells and see if they exhibit any suspicious behaviour. If they are involved, they might slip up."
I nodded, appreciating the input "We'll need to divide our tasks and work together."
We all agreed.
I continued, "Thank you, Blair, Colton, and Noah. Your support means a lot to me. This won't be easy, and it might be dangerous. But I think we can find the answers we're looking for and bring justice to Lola."
