Noon arrived like a gentle sigh, casting a temporary spell of calm over the bustling household. The usual echoes of giggles and pattering feet were momentarily replaced by a serene quietness, as if the world outside had paused to acknowledge the sacredness of midday.
A hushed stillness enveloped the house-a rare moment of tranquillity in a domain typically dominated by the lively chaos of three rambunctious toddlers. The house, Mohan Villa, accustomed to the lively symphony of three toddlers, found itself in an unfamiliar embrace of silence. The toys that usually danced to the tune of gleeful laughter now lay dormant, as if awaiting, momentarily forgotten, all over the living room.
Shaurya sighed picking each and placing them in an organized manner on the centre table. He then corrected the sofa corners which had been intentionally disturbed by the little Mohans to show their reluctance to their mothers who were forcibly trying to take them for a shower.
All of a sudden, Sameeksha's shrill voice reached his ears as he was about to make his way towards the staircase. He craned his neck to peek a glance inside his grandmother's room, which was now occupied by Dev and his small family.
"Dev, I'm being serious."
"Chill, Sam. They're kids..."
Dev urged softly, manoeuvring his 14 months old twins towards the floor mattress. Sameeksha rolled her eyes following her three boys,
"Really? I thought they're adults."
"Not funny!"
Dev remarked turning around after making sure that his more notorious one from the two wasn't being difficult with the baby quilt anymore. Sameeksha sounded evidently irritated,
"Be a good influence on them rather than being a kid with them. Discipline them. It's my phone today. It can be anything tomorrow."
Dev sighed shaking his head at no one in particular. A sly smile was marking it's presence on his face which made Sameeksha more irritated.
"Grow up!"
"What's the matter to grow up, when I have to end up like you." Dev muttered reaching out for Sameeksha's upper arm to lead her to the other end of the room, "Now come one, let's fetch your phone from behind the bed."
In the heart of the Mohan household, two mischievous 14-month-old twin baby boys reigned supreme. Daksh and Darsh - their antics were nothing short of legendary, as they gleefully explored the world around them with unbridled curiosity.
They had inherited their parents' spirited nature in every way possible. Their father, a playful soul himself, found immense joy in indulging their every whim, showering them with affection and laughter. Their mother, though determined to instil discipline, often found herself surrendering to their infectious giggles and irresistible charm.
The twins' mischievous endeavours created delightful chaos in the household. From toppling towers of toys to investigating nooks and crannies they shouldn't, they kept everyone on their toes. Their synchronized laughter echoed through the halls, their energy filling every corner of the house. Especially, ground floor was their playground.
It was the twins who brought the genuine laughter that the household thrived upon after Mrs Kaveri Mohan's death. Amid the busy routines and adult responsibilities, their laughter became the North Star of happiness, lighting up the whole family's daily life.
Dev had become distant, less lively and participative than he was known for. However, his sons' company made sure to bring his original self back from time to time.
Shaurya ascended the creaking staircase, each step carrying him further away from the bustling activities downstairs. As he reached the landing, memories of good old times flooded back. He couldn't help but smile at the echoes of laughter and mischievous talks that still lingered in the corners of his mind.
