Leaving the Mask Behind ~ Kanamafu

Days Do Go By.

Kanade Pov, contiued

     As I was scrolling through my phone, I heard the shower turn off. I sat up, waiting for Mafuyu to come out of the bathroom. When she walked intro my room, she was wearing my loosely fitted sweats and her hair was down, still slightly damp. I looked at her for a moment, she looked really cute.  But soon enough, her broken expression brought me back to reality. I gestured for her to sit down, and she did. I decided to ask what had happened earlier that night. She sighed and looked down. She began to explain what happened. She told me she had gotten into a huge fight with her mom after she had submerged her phone in her own aquarium. Mafuyu also told me about how she saw members of sekai briefly glitching on her phone, telling her to leave. But when she left, she felt guilty for it. I wanted to yell at her, to tell her she should have left her mother ages ago. Instead, I wrapped my arm around her and told her it was not at all her fault, and to not feel guilty. Before I realised, an alarm on my phone went off telling me to start to log onto nightcord. Mafuyu looked up at me, and I decided to not log on that night. I sent a quick message to Mizuki and Ena, informing them that neither I nor Yuki would be logging on that night. As much I wanted to talk more, as well as discuss Mafuyu staying with me for the foreseeable future, I decided to let her rest. I asked if she wanted to go to bed, and she silently nodded. 

     As I was getting out extra pillows and blankets, the question popped into my mind. Where would she sleep?  The Idea of Mafuyu sleeping in my own bed made me blush. As I entered my room, I could see her yawning. I told her she could sleep in my bed, and she nodded. Just as I was leaving to go sleep on the couch, Mafuyu's hand reached out from under the blanket. "Kanade, stay with me." She asked in a soft, tired voice. Not sure if she even understood what she said, I felt blood rush to my cheeks. I slowly walked over to the purple-haired girl, and took her outstretched hand. I climbed into my bed, staying by her side, still holding her hand. Mafuyu seemed to easily drift off to sleep, but I was left lying awake with my mind racing. Did she think of this as romantic? Did I even like her that way? The more I thought about it, the more I realised that I think I did  like her that way. I shook my head. Mafuyu didn't need romance right now. I decided I needed to keep these feelings to myself, but I couldn't fall asleep like this. I looked over to Mafuyu, sleeping peacefully on the left side of my bed. I sighed and stood up, walking to my living room. I lied down on my couch and drifted off to sleep.

-the next morning-

     I woke up to the sound of a panicked Mafuyu looking for me. I stood up and practically ran over to her. "I thought you left me..." she whispered. I instantly felt guilty for leaving her the night before. I briefly hugged her before heading to my kitchen to make breakfast, before I realised I had no food other than instant noodles. I hated  going out, so I usually waited until Honami came around and cooked. However, she wasn't coming around again for a few days, and I didn't want to subject Mafuyu to only eating ramen. Though I would rather die than go out on a busy Saturday, I needed to get some food for the both of us. I went back into the living room and told Mafuyu I would need to go to the market. She said she'd go with me and we both changed clothes, (I let her borrow more of mine) and headed out the door. 

     On the way there, I decided to bring up Mafuyu staying with me. "Mafuyu, you can stay with me for however long you need, but I'm a little worried about it. You don't have any of your belongings at my house, and you don't even have a working phone." I asked. Mafuyu responded, "I know, but I need to get away from that place. I will help financially any way I can. I am planning on getting my phone repaired with my personal savings. Please, let me stay with you until I am able to leave." I nodded my head. "Alright, just know I will help you in whatever way I can." I gave her a soft smile, and we continued walking. 

     When We arrived to the store, I rushed in wanting to make this as quick as possible. I sped walked through each isle, almost forgetting Mafuyu was behind me. Suddenly I stooped and faced her. "Mafuyu, uhm, do you have any foods you'd like to get?" I asked. Just before she could respond, we heard a sickening voice.

"Mafuyu?"

Mafuyu and I turned around in horror to see who it was. 

It was her mom.

hahahahahaha new chapter ends on cliffhanger >:) anyways I hope you enjoyed this!!! I'm having a lot of fun writing this and I hope youre having just as much fun reading!! (also, I think the rest of the story ishe story is going to be in Kanade's pov, so I won't specify "kanade pov" at the beginning of each chapter anymore.)
