Jane managed to escape the clutches of what she called Hell itself and ran as fast and as far as she could.
Through some prior eavesdropping and a little research, she'd heard a man named Captain America resided in Brooklyn, New York.
She wasn't sure why, but the spangly heroic name had always felt familiar to her.
By some miracle, she found her way to Brooklyn and found out where the captain lived.
She knocked on the front door and it opened.
Steve looked down to see the young girl. "Can I help you?"
"Are you Captain America? Er, Steve Rogers?" she asked.
"Who's asking?"
Jane pulled out a picture and held it up. "This was my mom and you're my dad."
Steve took the picture and a sad smile crossed his face. He looked at her and his gaze seemed to bore into hers. After a moment, he said softly, "Jane?"
She nodded. "Yeah, Dad, it's me."
He hugged her. "I thought I lost you."
"Nope, evil Nazi scientists took me. I got away."
"How?"
"Honestly, a miracle. Dad, can you tell me about Mom?"
Steve nodded and smiled. "Absolutely. Come on in."
She followed him inside, glad to have some family for the first time in her life.
