the sun's gentle rays filtered through the curtains, casting a warm and golden glow, signaling the dawn of a beautiful day. louis had been planning a surprise for harry for a while now, as a reward for his effort and progress. all week, harry had managed to earn a sticker for every meal and snack, even on days when it he struggled more than others. 

each morning when louis's alarm chimed to life at 8 o'clock he would typically hit the snooze button, relishing the chance for a few more moments of rest. however, on this particular morning, he got out of bed without hesitation. excitement coursed through him, knowing that today was the day he would take harry out for his surprise.

louis had spent the previous evening meticulously preparing for their outing. he had packed a bag with harry's favorite snacks, a plush blanket, and a few of his beloved stuffed animals, ensuring that everything was just right for their day together, their first proper outing since harry had moved in with louis.

louis quietly moved around the room, careful not to wake harry too abruptly, trying to avoid a grumpy toddler. he glanced at the crib, where his precious boy was still sleeping peacefully, snuggled under a soft, cozy blanket. the morning sun painted the room with a gentle light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. knowing how excited harry would be when he found out about the surprise, louis couldn't help but smile to himself. 

harry began to stir in his crib, his eyes fluttering open as he yawned softly. louis, pleased to see his boy up, slowly walked towards the crib and smiled down at the younger lad.

"good morning, sweetheart," louis cooed, his voice filled with warmth and affection. "how's my little boy?" he said as reached down to gently brush a few strands of hair away from harry's face, his heart swelling with love for the adorable little person before him.

" 'm good daddy," he said, furiously rubbing at his eyes, his curly hair still askew from where he had been laying. the sight was so adorable louis couldn't help but illicit a small coo. harry then let out a small yawn and blinked his tired eyes sleepily, still clearly tired.

"i hope my little sleepyhead isn't too exhausted for his surprise," louis playfully remarked, feigning concern. harry's eyes widened with excitement as he heard the word "surprise." his sleepiness seemed to evaporate instantly as he sat up, his hands gripping the crib bars.

"a surprise, daddy?" harry asked, his voice filled with anticipation. his big, green eyes were fixed on Louis, filled with curiosity and wonder.

louis chuckled softly at the younger boy's reaction. "yes, a surprise, but first, let's get you up and ready for the day, okay?" harry nodded his head vigorously and reached his arms above his head, signaling that he could like to be picked up.

louis' smile broadened and he reached into the crib, his hands gentle as he scooped harry into his arms. harry giggled happily as he was lifted out and held close to his daddy's chest. "what is the s'prise, daddy?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity.

"we're going to go to the petting zoo my love!" louis announced, a warm smile spreading across his face.

harry's eyes lit up with excitement at the news. "petting zoo? yay!" he cheered, clapping his small hands together, his pacifier framing a wide and joyful grin.

louis chuckled, his heart warmed by harry's enthusiasm. "that's right, buddy. but first, we need to get dressed and have some breakfast. what do you want for breakfast, hmm?"

harry thought for a moment, then grinned. "cereal, please!"

with harry's choice in mind, louis helped him select an outfit for the day- a fluffy brown teddy zip up and a pair of navy joggers, louis had opted for a simple outfit, mindful of the potential for harry to get dirty during their visit to the petting zoo. he also wanted to ensure that Harry didn't attract unnecessary attention by dressing him in an outfit he'd typically prefer in his headspace.
