"You have something to say to me, boy?" Uhtred spoke as he walked out behind the tree, Sihtric held out his sword in a threatening manner.

"I do. Yield to me." He ordered and Uhtred dropped his weapon as Sihtric then jabbed his into the soil. The two hug and laugh as the men surrounding them grow confused.

"You were playing us. My goodness, they were playing us, Finan! Why?" Osferth spoke happily.

"If you had not believed it nor would others." Uhtred spoke as he picked up his weapon with a laugh.

"I fooled you." Sihtric said proudly.

"No, I knew."

"No, you did not. Was I good?" Sihtric asked them.

"A little."

"I'm telling you, I knew." The Irishman insisted as he pulled him into a hug. "I just hope it was all worth it."

"I hope so, too." Sihtric said with a nervous smile.

"What do you know? We saw Cnut on the road." Uhtred questioned and Sihtric immediately went into spy mode.

"Only Hæsten remains at the camp." Sihtric informed.

"What of Bloodhair?"

"Dead. He fought with Hæsten and was killed by Skade." He spoke slowly and wondered when he should break the news to them.

"Good Jesus." The Irishman mumbled.

"She's a witch like no other," Sihtric teased. "But I do have something to confess, lord." When Uhtred motioned for him to continue Sihtric cleared his throat. "She has a twin sister, Uhtred. And I am bound to her by Skade's spell. One I consented to, we are bonded by blood. I cannot allow you to kill Skaldi, lord. She is mine to protect." Uhtred rubbed his forehead as Finan swore in his native tongue.

"Sihtric!" Finan hissed out. "Making a deal with the devil only kills you in the end."

"Then I would gladly die by Skaldi's hands. I will not abandon her, lord." Uhtred nodded reluctantly. There was not much he could do now.

"She knows I'm near?" Uhtred interrupted the bickering warriors.

"Yes, she knows of your promise to shadow-walk. But there are too many guards." Sihtric told the Dane. "The tree."

"What tree?" Uhtred questioned.

"She is allowed to collect grass and herbs by a tree for her spells. A single tree on the other side of the camp. You cannot miss it." Sihtric teased the Dane.

"Tell her I'm here and take her there tonight."

"And if she refuses? If Hæsten prevents her?" Sihtric questioned with curiosity.
