Everything had been going wrong for Charlie - his alarm didn't go off so he woke up late which meant he had to rush around the apartment getting ready for work then once he arrived at the subway his train was delayed. When the train arrived, he rushes on and stands near the door so he could literally run from the station to his workplace but once the train jolts forward, the person next to him accidentally spills their coffee all over his shirt. He sighs and mutters "can this day get any worse?"
Arriving at work an hour after his starting time, he walks into the reception area and sees Elle at the desk talking to a rather tall muscly blond haired man. He walks past and nods at Elle then heads into the lift upstairs to his desk.
Once at his desk, he slumps into his chair and sighs. His work colleague Isaac who is sat next to him looks up from his book "Bad morning?" he asks.
"The worst. Overslept, delayed train and then someone decided to spill their coffee on me" Charlie replies while opening his emails.
"Oh dear, let's hope the rest of today goes smoother" Isaac chirps before looking back at his book.
"Yeah hope so" Charlie sighs. He looks at his emails and sees he hasn't got too much editing to do today which makes him so happy and he hopes that it means he can get out of here just after lunch so he can get home and sort out the mess in his apartment after the rushing around that had happened literally a few hours before.
A few hours pass by when Isaac pops a coffee and a pastry next to him which reminded him that he hadn't eaten so he looks up and thanks Isaac with a nod and a smile. He picks up the coffee and takes a sip when he notices Elle and the guy from earlier entering the floor he is on. Elle is chattering away excitedly and the guy is smiling and nodding at every word that she is saying. He doesn't realise that he is staring until he hears Isaac clearing his throat.
"Liking what you see there Charlie?" Isaac laughs.
He laughs awkwardly while rubbing his neck, "I don't know what you're talking about.." he looks at his computer screen to hide his blush.
He was so glad that Isaac didn't say anything after that but he really wanted to know who this beautiful angel was because for the rest of the day he knew he would not be able to stop thinking about him.
The rest of the morning goes quickly which he is so thankful for and it was now 1pm when he noticed that all the editing was done for the day. He smiles and stretches his arms above his head and then turns to Isaac "Well that's me done for the day"
"So you going to be thinking about the new guy for the rest of the day now aren't you?" Isaac says with a smirk.
"What...? N-no!" he splutters.
Isaac laughs "I'm joking Charlie - go home and relax, you need it after the morning you've had"
He smiles, bends down and grabs his bag from the floor. "Thanks, think I'll sit with Aphrodite and read a book"
"Oh give Aph a scratch under her chin for me, I miss that pesky cat" Isaac smiles. "I will try and pop over sometime as it's been a while since us gang have hung out"
"Yeah it has and I will, she misses you" Charlie laughs while putting on his coat. "See you tomorrow" he says while waving at Isaac.
He heads back to his apartment and as soon as he opens the door Aphrodite, his black cat is there meowing and rubbing against his legs. "Oh Aph, you missed me?" he laughs while bending down to rub her head.
He heads to the kitchen and quickly feds Aphrodite and then heads into the living room and sees the mess he had left that morning. He sighs and mutters to himself "I better sort this out". He opens the window to let some air in as it was a warm day in Manhattan.
He heads to the bedroom and changes out of the ruined shirt from the incident that morning and then back into the living room where he sees Aphrodite walking towards the window. "No Aph! You can't go out there!" he says while running towards the window.
It was like in the movies where it goes slow-mo, Aph was out of the window walking along the fire escape. He scrambled to the window and saw Aph walking towards another open window.
He knew he had to do something and he couldn't just go knocking on someone elses door when he doesn't know who's apartment it is! He climbs out of the window and walks along the fire escape following his pesky cat and climbs through the other window.
Once through the window he notices he's in someone elses living room and the first thing he sees is rugby trophies. He shakes his head and looks around for his cat and starts to look under chairs, tables and cabinets, even looking behind them. He really hopes he can get his cat out of here before the owner comes home.
Eventually he finds Aph hiding behind the TV cabinet so he tries to lure her out which means he doesn't hear the front door unlocking. After a while he scoots out from behind the cabinet holding his cat in his arms when he sees the guy from earlier leaning against the doorframe looking at him.
"I'm so sorry! My cat escaped and got into your apartment and I was trying to get her out of here before you got home but she is a sneaky thing and she always hides and oh my god I am so so sorry..." he knows he's rambling but he can't help it.
The stranger is now doubling over in laughter and Charlie is stunned.
"Well this is one way to meet your neighbours.. I'm Nick Nelson by the way" he says wiping his tears away.
"Oh, I'm Charlie Spring and this is Aphrodite" he says while lifting Aph to show him. "I should get back and punish this little one"
"No worries, maybe we should get together sometime - you know get to know the neighbour type of thing" Nick says then gives him a lopsided smile.
"Ye-yeah.. we should" he stutters. "Okay I need to go..." he says while walking back to the window and quickly runs out of there.
Once back in his apartment, he sets Aph down and closes the window and slides down onto the floor. "Oh my god Aph, why did you do that?" he sighs.
He hears his phone chime on the table so he gets up off the floor, picks it up and sees an Instagram notification...
