"Try? Again?"

I looked up at the shadow, its form almost translucent as ribbons of moon light danced on my bed illuminating it.

"No, I thought- I must not have slept enough.." I thought as I slowly stood up from the floor. "This isn't real, some sort of dream and I haven't even woken up yet."

"If this is then some sort of dream, wouldn't you like to finish the rest of it then?"

I squinted in the dark still trying to attach a shape to the shadowy figure in my room. The figure sounded tall, if that is even a descriptor, then again I did not have that much to go by as it was 2:35 a.m. and pitch black in my room.

"No thank you..." I was a little embarrassed, I didn't want to converse with the figure I just wanted it out of my room.

"Why not?" It replied.

It's voice.

The figure had a voice that was deep and foreboding, the more I thought about it, the voice sounded feminine in a strange way, it had an androgynous feel to it. I was confused to say the least but I quickly gave up on trying to make sense of it all. Sitting on my bed I pulled the covers up from underneath the figure it didn't complain or even look like it had even bothered it one bit.

"Well, since you are a dream there isn't any harm in telling you." I pulled  my hair back out of my face placing a pillow behind me so I could sit up properly. " My birthday is today-"

"Best Wishes."

"Thank you... It's my birthday and I do not feel like attending the party my friend has set up for me, I do not feel like going to my moms party, I do not feel like attending that stupid Red Moon Fair. I just want to stay away from everything and everyone right now..."

"May I move closer to you?" The figure looked like it had cocked its head to the side when talking to me, almost like how a dog would when it was listening to new sounds.

I nodded moving inwards towards the edge of my bed.

"Sure." I half smiled.

The figure seemed to have floated towards the empty spot sitting right next to me.

"To me, those issues you're facing don't seem to be all that bad, but It sounds like to me you're having a hard time with the people in your day to day life?" The shadow figure whispered.

"Yeah.." I whispered back. "I don't feel like being in public, or even with family, I just want to stay home but I know if I don't make an appearance everyone will worry."

The figure loomed over me and in that moment the moon seemed to shine brighter, I could almost make out a face.

"why don't I come with you?" He asked softly.

"Yeah, sure you can." I replied with sarcasm dripping in my voice. "Just make sure you find a black suit with a red tie, thats the theme of the party. You know, for the Red Moon festival and all"

I laid my head on my pillow as I felt sleep take it's hold on me, I tossed within my bed trying to get comfortable, I yawned settling in my covers feeling a soft big hand massage my scalp, followed with some humming in a language I don't think I have ever heard before. It was warm and nostalgic in some way, like having a loved one lull you to sleep. I woke up the next day feeling the sun warming up my once cold room. I shot up from my bed looking around my room.

Nothing

I sighed a sigh of relief, It was just a dream I thought to myself. I must've been so stressed out about my birthday and my family that I made up someone to talk to. I crawled out of bed and started walking to wards my bathroom, I washed, blew dry and brushed my hair styling to match my outfit. I looked towards the bed room and a small memory played within my mind.

"why don't I come with you?"

I chuckled, what a weird dream. Just then I got a text from Christie which started me a little as I was lost in thought.

                                                      "Happy Birthday my love!"

                                                          "Thank you sweet <3"

"Hey I know I am not supposed to ask but will you be coming to your mums party?"

                                                                       "Yeah"

                                                               "Wait really?"

"I have to go, if i dont i think mums going to blow up my phone, its what she did last year"

"oh yeah she was asking people if they had seen you, ngl it was kinda bad"

I pressed in some light foundation trying my best to do as little make up as possible. I looked at my phone again checking the time.

"you remember to bring the wine right? or do i?"

Damn it was the only thing I had forgotten.

                                                                      "I forgot"

                                                               "Dw I got you <3"

"omg I love you so much thank you"

"I love you too see you there<3"

I smiled looking down at my phone before putting it away in my pocket. I stepped out of my bed room putting my shoes on before walking down stairs to get something small to eat. I looked out of my window watching Christie wave out to me. She looked both ways before running across the street holding up her dress making sure she didn't trip with her heals. I waved back blowing a kiss at her as she ran up to the window blowing air on it. With the condensation, she drew a heart with an arrow piercing through it, she kissed her two fingers pressing it against the glass before waving and running back towards her car. I giggled watching her silly display of affection towards me and waved her off as she drove away.

Even though I lived next door to Christie, I didn't ever like bothering her, she was always so busy and yet she always made sure to make time for me, weather it be emotionally or physically she was to me my platinic soulmate. Thats how she saw me at least. I loved that woman ever since she moved in the neighbor hood all those years ago, but I never had the courage to tell her.

I sat at the table eating my food letting the minuets pass me by. I checked my phone again 12:P.M. I got up from my sofa and decided it was about time I left my house. I walked out the door getting into my car sitting in the drivers seat for a couple more minuets, I took a deep breath, starting up the car engine, driving all the way to my mothers house for her birthday party.
