Back to life (Chapter 2)

Jude hated his mom.  She was tall and slender,  overly obsessed with the gym and was overprotective.  During dinnertime, he gazed at her foreign face, guilt twisting in his guts. What he  hated most  about his reincarnation was that he'd indirectly killed the original Jude. Original Jude's soul left his body to make way for the new Jude's soul. It felt utterly morbid to him, since he had been a hero who saved innocent lives, not the other way round.

"Honey, you should eat up," Jude's mom's voice brought him back to reality. Wordlessly, he stuffed a spoonful of corn in his mouth from the bowl directly in front of him. "Are you okay, dear? You aren't...talking much." His mom said, face contorted into a frown. This is a clue, Jude thought. A clue that showed what kind of person original  Jude had been. "I'm okay, mom, just...you know, everyone's affected about Elander's death." He said, and it was almost a truth.

"But...you've never showed any interest in that hero, so why would you be sad?" His mom pushed on, "Is it because of...Mateo? Did you break up with him?" Original Jude's boyfriend.

"No, mom, we didn't-" "Well, you haven't been talking about him much," his mom interrupted, "Should I call his mom to ask him over for the weekend?" It wasn't  a question at all, as she pulled out the phone from her pocket and began dialing Mateo's mom. Jude sighed, sinking down into his seat. He reckoned original Jude's life was hell.

Jude realized school was much much worst than his mom. Girls down the hallways kept teasing him about his hair, which he figured looked odd as his mom did it for him. Or rather, he asked her to, and she delightedly agreed to.

"Jude!" Jude nearly forgot to respond to his new name. He span around, eyeing a girl who had long blonde hair curling down her back, and a pair of silver-rimmed glasses perched neatly on her nose. "Uh...hey," He muttered. The girl reached out, and patted Jude's forehead. Jude reeled, taken aback by the sudden movement. "Jude, you're sick, aren't you?" The girl rolled her eyes and questioned.

"Um, no, " Jude blinked rapidly, replying. "You are," the girl said dismissively, "Or else you'd be flapping your arms around and screeching like a wild bird, like you always do." Jude gasped, detecting another clue about his personality.

"Well, you really fell for my trick, didn't you?" He announced loudly, roaring with laughter. It was the right move, the girl sighed, looking irritated but had a hint of relief on her features.

"Jude, Crystal!" A boy called, waving to them. He had  side-swept hair, a rebellious tuft of chestnut brown that fell gracefully across his forehead, partially obscuring  his eyes the shade of hazel.

"Mateo!" The girl, now revealed as Crystal, yelled. She glanced at Jude expectantly. "Hey, Mate," Jude said as a greeting. A lazy grin spread across Mateo's lips, and Jude felt utterly transfixed by it.
