Apparently, Jude was supposed to have an enemy called Melissa. She had a small, upturned nose that seemed almost perfectly sculpted, and her lips were naturally full and pouty, often painted with bold, attention-grabbing shades of lipstick. Jude hated it at first sight.

"Jude, I don't even believe your MOM did your hair. I think it was your GRANDMA." Melissa broke into a shrill laughter that reverberated around the classroom. Jude was used to taunting, especially when his enemies did it during a battle when he had been Elander. Jude shuffled to sit down at his seat, tilting his head slightly to shoot Melissa a slight grin, "You know, my  hair is just my way of standing out in a world full of perfectly coiffed heads!" Melissa opened her mouth to respond when the chemistry teacher slid into the class. She shot Jude a snarl as she plopped down into her chair.

Jude was liking his new personality. When he'd been Elander, he had to be serious, focused and on task. Being Jude gave him some freedom to be snarky and carefree. At least, he thought, it made up to his new annoying mom.

Crystal and Mateo were Jude's lunch buddies.  "Damn it, Jude," Mateo started when Jude slid into the bench beside him, " You should've punched Melissa in the face. She deserves it."

Jude didn't want to look uncool in front of Mateo, so he lied, "Hell, I was going to, then Mr. Smith walked in!" Mateo burst out chortling, and Crystal sighed impatiently, "You two are meant for each other, just go on your first date already." Mateo nodded with an easy grin while Jude's cheeks burned with an intense warmth. He thought of the Saturday Mateo would go over to his house.

"Hey, Mateo, did you know my mom-"Jude began, but a loud crashing noise from a distance away made everyone in the cafeteria bolt upright. Melissa screeched, but her words were drowned out by another boy, Nathan, and his laughter.

"Messy breakup, I guess," Crystal hissed. Nathan was laughing and sneering at Melissa while she wept loudly. The table they were gathered around was knocked over, the culprit of the noise. "YOU CHEATED ON ME!" Melissa shrieked, her eyebrows furrowed into a deep V. "Who cares?" Nathan slurred out.

"Drunk again," Mateo said with a hint of amusement. Melissa tried slapping Nathan but failed miserably. Light flashed suddenly. Jude shielded his eyes, blinking rapidly. Melissa's incessant screaming and Nathan's slurring merged, the sounds changing to a low rumbling noise.

                                                     It was definite.

Jude was having a flashback of his first life.
