•theres no harm in it•
AGE 14, Contessa Carmine was in pain and in shock as she laid on the ground with a fractured jaw looking in the corner of her eye and watching her father stare with his beaming glare. She could hear her brothers and sister crying and screaming in worry. She laid there on the ground emotionlessly twitching. Numb. Her pain seemed to get worse and suddenly everything turned into a blur. She had passed out.
•
Things were never this horrible, no matter how many times her dad hit her and screamed at her he never did anything this horrible. As a young girl her father always took his anger out on the oldest, Contessa.
This seemed unfair being that she was the one raising his kids, protecting his kids, sacrificing her childhood for his kids. She did love them though. She would do anything for them. Literally anything. They were her light, her joy, and the only thing keeping her going.
Growing up they were always poor. Her father always gambled their money away, and when he lost their money he got angry and left for certain amounts of time. So thats when Contessa dropped out of school to take care of her siblings while her mom worked.

Contessa had woken up laying in her bed. She looked around to see her mother, Danielle, on the other end of the bed. Danielle sat there for a moment with tears running down her face. "Contessa, I'm so sorry this happened. I promise that this wont ever happen again." Danielle glanced over with guilt in her eyes, thinking about if there was more she couldve done or said to avoid this tragedy. "It hurts, mom. Badly. Why should I be the one to put up with this?!" Contessa shouted with a raspy voice choking her tears back, still trying to be strong. "I know, you shouldn't have to deal with this, its unfair. No kid should have to put up with this bullshit" Danielle explained. "I know mom. And im not blaming you." Even though Contessa said this doesn't mean she doesn't wonder why she's putting any of her children through this. No matter if it was tough love or not it shouldn't matter. You should always put your children first. Danielle stared with thoughts filled at the back of her head. "Im sorry. Can you please just get me some Tylenol or Ibuprofen?" She asked. "Of course." Danielle left the room.
Contessa just stared at the ceiling in shock of what even happened. She had wondered if her dad actually loved her or not, and if he did what she wondered what she had done to deserve this violence from her father. She glared over to the door, seeing the knob turn. It was him. Her father.
Contessa looked over in disgust. She felt like she was going to actually throw up looking at him. She said no words as she was intimidated and frightened by him. He sat at the end of her bed. "Contessa, I'm sorry. I should've never acted that way towards you. You know I'm just stressed with work." She nodded knowing that he hasn't worked in weeks.
"Here I use this for myself. Since you're hurt I thought you could use it." He opened a pill bottle and took out a Vicodin. She stared at his hand as he held it out for her. "Here try it, theres no harm in it." She grabbed the Vicodin out of his hand and sallowed it.
This was the start of it all. This is what changed her.
