It was not uncommon for Val's good friend and coworker, Naoh, to ask things of her. In fact, it seems like that's all he did.
But when that favor leads her to become Waterparks's merch girl for their upcoming Fandom tour s...
"Finally I can have peace again" Val sighed, stepping through the airport entrance. The cold air eased her skin from the warm Florida heat.
Being a merch manager is definitely her favorite thing in the world but it sure could get exhausting. After all, the majority of the job is classic retail work plus what felt like an intense workout stacked on top. Seriously those boxes can get fucking heavy.
Haven gotten into the industry through Warped Tour, when temperatures got deadly high, really just made things so much easier down the line. That wasn't saying she doesn't get absolutely worn out though. She became one of the lucky few who made it in the business by building up her reputation, going as far as almost being a "pro" at it. It's true that people would kill for this job, especially if it meant you got to work for (and befriend) a band like Sleeping with Sirens.
Val recently worked on the Threesome Tour with them along with Bring Me the Horizon and Poppy. It was definitely a great one. Even with there being two other artists, sales were through the roof. Kellin and the boys were so stoked to hear about it.
But now Val was heading home. It was a bittersweet moment having it be over just like that, but a break was definitely needed.
Her eyes glanced between the phone placed in her hand to the many signs around her, looking quite frantic. Normally Val makes a point to get to her gate an hour before boarding but today there were some compilations. And by complications, it means, she slept in. But who could really blame her? Working on 4 hours or less of sleep for a whole month catches up on you. Instead of her scheduled hour to be at her gate, she had 15 minutes.
The desperate search for the gate was interrupted when all of a sudden her phone screen wasn't on the gate number but instead, it was dark with big letters on top reading, Noah🧂, Val exhaled and answered.
"Noah I can't really talk right n-" she started but was quickly cut off.
"VAL!! Thank god you answered!! Listen I know we just saw each other literally yesterday and you're on your way home but I have a question I need to ask you. stat." The coworker quickly spoke.
"Go ahead but make it quick please," Val responded, rubbing the bridge of her nose.
"Okay so, basically you know how a couple of weeks back when we were talking about our plans for after tour and I mentioned having to jump back into work?" the male asked, not waiting for a response before continuing, "Well, the thing is I may or may not have just realized I double booked myself blah blah blah so... could you do me a favor?"
Val rolled her eyes, "Don't tell me you want to throw your mistake onto me."
"Please! All I would need you to do is take one booking for me, they're called Waterparks, it's a month from now, they need someone to do merchandise for them and you know I hate having to go to people I don't know for these kinda things that's why I'm asking you," he frantically spoke.
Val has known Noah for years. The two stumbled upon each other during her Warped Tours days, he's always been like this. Putting too much on his plate and having to have someone come and save him. That someone is most definitely always Val.
"...Okay.."
Noah began a little cheer on the other side of the line, Val was swift to interrupt him, "BUT only because you know I get post-tour depression and gotta have more lined up... and because I'm a good friend too I guess" She softly smiled.
"Flight 167 will be departing to Austin, Texas soon. Remaining passengers Please make your way to gate 13" the overhead speakers rang out.
"Shit, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later," she said grabbing at her belongings, making sure she had everything.
"Okay have a safe flight! I'll text you the deets, thanks I owe you one!" Noah happily spoke before hanging up.
Soon enough Val was sprinting to her gate.
