The finishing crash of a drum was just the right background noise Val needed to wrap up setting the merch table. The band had been running through sound checks during the entirely of the process. She had only been half listening to them while setting up though. She liked to get in the zone to make sure everything was to perfection. But hearing a man sing about "missing sex" and "not wanting to die anymore" because of it caught her off guard, not to lie.Stepping back from the table a very needed exhale escaped her lips. It was quite a cute set up, some long sleeves, a hoodie, socks (for some reason), a hat, and a few t-shirts. Some of which having interesting text on them. Why was someone named Otto a thot? None the less Val was satisfied, until something hit her.
"Shit," she mumbled to herself. She forgot the price tags. How the hell could she forget that? It's probably the most important part.
Her eyes scanned the table in search of a sharpie. Venues or crew typically have them laying everywhere so it shouldn't be an issue finding one. Although it is. Crap Val thinks before rushing to her bag she placed behind the table. She has to have something, anything. She can't embarrass herself on the first day of tour running around asking for a sharpie like a chicken without a head. Especially because she used her one embarrassing moment to run into a band member. Okay. She might be overthinking it a bit. But hey it's the first-day-of-tour jitters I guess.
Vals hand hit the bottom of her bag and swayed between the items inside before landing on two long stick-like shapes. She pulls her hand out hoping that either of these things could possibly aid her in this situation. Sat in her hand are as follows: An Elf Lip Liner in the shade Dark Coco, which would be useful if Val needed a touch up but she doesn't, and a dark blue gel pen she stole from Blake's stationary kit months ago and forgot to return. I guess this will have to work.
She carefully writes each price on sheets of paper, making sure the lines are thick enough to be read from afar. Tossing the pen onto the table in competition, she sighs. It's dark blue, which is close to black, so hopefully people won't say anything.
"Looks good." a strong voice booms behind Vals head, nearly making her fly out of her skin. Her head snaps back behind her catching Lucas gazing at the stand with his hands on his waist. She needs to put bells on these people, she can only handle so many surprised run-ins.
"Oh thank you," Val nods her head, "I had trouble choosing which side to put the socks on." A small laugh escapes her.
"I think 's perfect," Lucas compliments before glancing at his watch, "We have about 20 minutes till we let in VIP so you can do whatever till then."
Val drops her shoulders, "Thank the heavens I have time to piss, i've been holding it in for too lon-" before she can finish her sentence she remembers who she is talking to. Her hand flys to her mouth and her eyes go wide. A chuckle is heard from Lucas.
"I am so sorry that is TMI you-you definitely didn't need to know that" Val apologies. The embarrassment really doesn't end."Oh trust me I've heard worse from Awsten," He shakes his head before pointing down a hallway to their right, "restrooms are just down there."
"Thanks." Val spits out before speed-walking in the direction of the restrooms. She can't believe herself.
Lucas continues his admiration of the merch stand in peace before it gets rudely interrupted when a hand slaps onto his shoulder. He can already tell who the creature behind him is.
"What do you want, Awsten?"
"Hey! How did you know it was me?" Awsten shoots back, he feels like he should be offended.
"I have eyes on the back of my head. Plus your walk is the loudest out of the three of yall." Lucas says referring to him, Geoff, and Otto before turning to find a head of neon green hair now to his side.
"Weird," Awsten pulls his hand away and turns to the table in front of them "woaaaah I like this, the socks are in the perfect spo- wait. Is that? Lucas! You used a gel pen! That's my favorite." He leans forward to get a closer look.
"Hate to break it to you but I didn't set any of this up, I have other duties you know." Lucas laughs out rolling his eyes.
"Huh?"
"Valerie did it. Our new girl in charge of merch," Lucas answers "She's definitely a character, I like her." he stops to glance at the phone sitting in his hand "Damn, I just remembered I have to check something with the venue. Don't spend too much time standing around, VIP is soon." He turns on his heels quickly and walks off leaving no time for Awsten to get another word out to him.
Awsten stands there, his eyes tracing the ink on the slips of papers. "Hmm, Valerie."
He doesn't give it much thought, moving to go bug Geoff with the time he has left.

Vip merch sales had gone smoothly and the pre-show sales were also following that trend. From the few hours that passed, Val quickly picked up on how dedicated these Waterparks fans are. Everywhere you looked people were spotted in neon green, oranges, and any piece of merch you could think of. Lots of them had dyed hair too. Most were shades of green, Val assumed they did that to match the guy with neon green green hair she met.
At Least she didn't feel out of place when it came to that. Val had just freshened up her pink color before she left. She has been dying her hair for ages and found it quite fun.
The next people in line stepped up to the table, gaining Val's attention as she cleared her throat, "Hello! How can I help you?"
"Hi, uh could get a hoodie in medium," One of the two girls spoke up, looking at the items behind Val then proceeded to point to her friend, "and she'll have the 'Geoff is my dad' shirt, a medium as well."
"Of course" Val turned to dig through the boxes behind her, grabbing their items. They were flying through the hoodies faster than she thought, "Here you go, that will be $65."
The girl nodded, beginning to dig through her bag for a wallet. Val glanced at her friend to the left. She had long brown hair tucked behind her ears, revealing two orange slice earrings.
The first girl pulled out her credit card and handed it to Val. "I love your earrings by the way," Val smiled to the girl on the left, inserting the card she was handed into the reader.
"Oh thank you so much!" The friends face brightened
"Everyone here is so on theme," Val admits, handing the card back laughing, "you know, it makes me feel a little left out. Maybe I should get a shirt to match yall, any recommendations?"
"Oh definitely the 'Awsten is my mom' shirt it's hilariou-" The girl with the earrings got cut off when the lights in the venue dimmed. Causing an uproar in screams from the crowd.
"Shit! We gotta go, it was nice meeting you!" Earring girl frantically spoke, grabbing her friend's arm and their merch. "Enjoy the show!" Val waved, watching the pair run into the sea of people.
The rest of the line faded away, as nobody wanted to miss anything. This allowed her a nice view of the stage as music started playing through the speakers and lights began to flash. Slowly figures walked onto stage, the last one being the very guy Val ran into in the hall. He walked up to the mic and began singing.
"Cherry red you know I died for you-"
