Slow Kaveh

The tavern wasn't entirely packed with people, but it wasn't exactly quiet.

It was actually the perfect amount of people and noise, enough to make Kaveh feel a bit less miserable by hearing them laugh and talk around him without being too loud. It also allowed him to get distracted by his thoughts as his thumbs moved by their own, drawing circles on the glass he was holding.

He still didn't take a sip from it since he was still waiting for Tighnari to join him and it wouldn't be nice for him to be a drunk mess when Tighnari arrives. He knew how easily it was for him to get drunk.

Thankfully it didn't take long for Tighnari to arrive, and his face instantly lit up at the sight of his friend because he really was having a miserable day. The forest ranger merely scanned the room before his eyes landed on Kaveh and he immediately started walking towards the table Kaveh was sitting at while noting how isolated it was. So, despite the bright charming smile his friend was directing at him, he knew that something was wrong.

And that 'something' was not exactly hard to guess.

"Did something happen between you two again?" He asked, not even bothering with a greeting.

Kaveh frowned in confusion at that. "Uh, what?"

"It's not hard to tell that something is bothering you. Am I wrong to assume that it's Alhaitham again?"

"Ugh, that guy is always bothering me. It's nothing new." Kaveh huffed, pursing his lips in a way a disgruntled kid would. "But yes, you're wrong this time. I was just having a bad day with a client."

Somehow, Tighnari didn't believe that as he raised an eyebrow at him. "That's it?"

The doubt in his voice made Kaveh roll his eyes, he hated it whenever Tighnari did that. He knew he was going to tell him everything sooner or later, so he took a large gulp from his drink before he begrudgingly spoke about what was bothering him. Tighnari was right, it is Alhaitham. Again.

"Nothing happened between us. Not exactly." He sighed, massaging his temple because he was going to develop a headache at the mere thought of his infuriating roommate. "It's just that lately he has become a lot more annoying than usual. He just wouldn't leave me alone."

Tighnari blinked with an expressionless face. "Ah, I see."

"Nope, you don't. You guys never believe me whenever I say he has a temper. Living with him is a nightmare!" Kaveh ranted, and his rant went and on while Tighnari patiently listened. The client he complained about earlier was never mentioned again, and once Kaveh was done with his rant, he took another sip of his drink while giving Tighnari an envious look as he pouted. "You're so lucky, you know. It's making me jealous."

But Tighnari didn't know, and so he tilted his head curiously. "How so?"

"You have the perfect relationship with Cyno. I don't think I have ever seen you two fight – I hope I never will – and you never once complained about anything other than his terrible jokes." Then, as if he just realized it, he continued by adding. "It seems all I do is complain to you about Haitham, huh?"

"No relationship is perfect, Kaveh. Me and Cyno had our fair share of struggles, and while it might not seem like an easy solution, the best thing you could do is try to communicate and compromise. I'm sure Alhaitham would be open to listen to whatever it is that's bothering you."

"So many things bother me." Kaveh muttered a little bit petulantly, his pout persisted as he spoke while glaring down at his drink. He was clearly annoyed as he spoke, moving a strand of his blond hair back behind his ear as he did so. "I know it is his house, but I wish he'd just stop scrutinizing everything I do. It's like he is trying to find any excuse to come bother me. Things like my work area being a mess, I am too loud at night when I work on a project – he always says he can't sleep because of it – that I make bad decisions... The list is never-ending!"
