"This one?" A book slid across the hardwood floor landing at a pair of pointy heels. "No, not that one, it was about the wolf guy and the girl" "very vague Emily." The women in the white silky dress said crouched down digging through a book shelf. "Girl I'm not the one that cant remember the title to my own book" "shut up and help me up" she said pushing the books over in frustration. "I swear there was a witch in it" the women said pulling the other up. "Can we leave please? This dress is so tight on me I can't breathe" she placed her palm on her stomach as she reached for her wallet, "Kayla it's supposed to do that. You look snatched! I'm sure itll be a big hit." "Oh I know it will be, all your designs are- but next time maybe bring a dress that fits me-" "it does fit!" Emily interrupted. "You're just not confident, I mean look at you!" Emily said spinning Kayla around to see her reflection.
-
Kayla's fingertips traced her hips. She did feel pretty, but still- it didn't take away from the fact that she could barley breathe. "Ubers here!" Emily's red hair bounced as she ran toward the door stomping in her heels. "Come on little miss sexy!" Kayla rolled her eyes and walked out the door down the steep stairs. "This is going to be so fun!" "You say that about every pop up party we go to" Kayla said sliding in the Uber. "That's because it's true!" The Uber drivers looked at the women in the rear view mirror, his eyes wondering down and back up at an unpleasant face of disgust from Kayla. Her arms were crossed. "You can drive now." "Right yes ma'am"
-
They arrived to the party, it was in an old town house just a few blocks from Emily's apartment. The streets were filled with cars and people. "There's Ry Ry!" Emily squealed excitedly as she slapped the head rest in front of her. "Stop stop we'll get out here" Emily didn't even wait for the car to come to a complete stop before opening the door. Kayla gave the Uber a wad of cash from her wallet and slid out of the car behind her dear friend.
-
"Do I look good?" Emily said turning to Kayla. "Girl shut up" Emily and Ryan have been going out for almost two years, he gives her the biggest butterflies till this day. "Kayla girl! I think he's with his cute friends!" Kayla rolled her eyes as they walked toward the house. "I told you I'm not interest-" "no- you have been cooped up in that room for months writing that silly book, you need some adventure in your life. Besides, it doesn't have to be serious. Just have fun." Emily was right. Kayla needed to have fun and get back out there. "Heyyyy, might give you a few more ideas for your spicy chapters." Emily said slightly nudging her. "Very true" Kayla said smiling down at her feet as she walked up the stairs, "my Em Em" "Ry" Emily replied walking up to her boyfriend completely getting wrapped in his arms.
-
It slightly bugged Kayla as she watched him rock back n forth with her in his arms, like she belonged to him, like she was his trophy. She could feel eyes on her, she broke her stare and looked over at a man standing just a few feet in front of her. He was leaned up against the railing a cigarette between his fingers. A nasty habit, a total turn off.
-
"Gentlemen, this is my beautiful lady Emily." Emily smiled at the men that surrounded them. They all spoke about the same time, "Oh and her best friend Kayla." Ryan said smiling at her. Kayla stood with her arms crossed, her smile half assed paired with an annoyed expression. Her eyes kept drifting to the man with the cigarette, his hair was just curly enough for a wolf cut, paired with a pointy nose and a black suit. His fingers laced with rings, tattoos peaking from under his sleeves.
-
"Okay, we're going in for the show, see you in there?" Emily said looking up at him, it made Kayla want to vomit, she didn't care for Ryan, she just hated the cringe love fest. "Of course" he said to her before kissing her cheek and slapping her butt. Kayla took her arm and glanced at the smoker again. "What a shame" she said to herself.
-
"What's the verdict!?" Emily said squeezing Kayla's arm as they entered the house. "What?" "I saw you checking him out!" Kayla laughed sarcastically "Well, his jaw line is so sharp it could probably give me a paper cut, his eyes-" Kayla stopped and looked at Emily "number one, I'm not his type, even if I was a little interested he'd fuck me and throw me to the side. Second off he's a smoker" "smoker!?" Emily rolled her eyes "just means he's smokin!" She joked "no it means he's got a date with death in the future" "we all do, all we can do till then is have fun. So get over your fear of tobacco and fuck the shit out of that man" Kayla stopped walking "Did you not hear a single word I just said?" "I did but I chose to ignore it, because you weren't the only one that was checking someone outtt!" Emily danced in a circle bouncing to the music. "What do you mean?" Kayla raised an eyebrow. "He was checking you out too!" Kayla heart fluttered quickly, she slightly smirked. It made her feel just a bit giddy. "I can get his number for you" her heart dropped "no!" She shook her head aggressively. "No you won't do that, thanks though!" "Kaylaaa!!" "No! If he wants to talk to me he will." "What?" "No!" Kayla yelled crossing her arms awkwardly as the party got louder.
-
Suddenly a lady came over an intercom system, "ALL DESIGNERS GET YOUR MODLES TO THE STAGE! SHOW STARTING IN FIVE!" Emily looked at Kayla with a smile. Kayla sighed and followed her through the rooms to the living room. There was a massive stage set up. "Okay just do you girly" she said smacking Kayla's butt as she walked behind the stage with her, "Dollar signs Emily" "Dollar signs" Emily repeated with a smile.
-
"Carla Bakerson wearing Sara Rees dress Firefox" the announcer announced the models of one by one. Emily and Kayla were second to last, they both judged the others silently, "we got this-" Kayla whispered "for sure" Emily whispered back. "Kayla Rayleigh is on deck!" "You got this babes!" Kayla was next, she wasnt a model, she was too short and frankly didn't fit the model stereotype, yes, she was pretty. But she wasn't outrageously skinny or beautiful. She was average, at least that's what she told herself.
-
"Kayla Rayleigh wearing Emily Stones Milk dress" Kayla walked the stage, she might not be a professional but she knew how to work her curves and that's what they love to see. Cheers echoed through the crowd already. A smirk krept across her face as she walked to the end of the stage. Placing her hand on her hip sassily she received cheers from the crowd knowing half of them were from Emily's friends. It didn't bother Kayla, she liked the attention every once in a while. The silky dress hugged her curves as she walked back down the runway.
-
"Kayla! Perfect as always!" Emily said squealing as she walked off the stage. "I can't wait to take this thing off." Kayla said pulling at the skin tight dress. "We can go ahead and leave, this party's kinda dead anyway." Emily said looking around the busy room. "Good, I want Canes." "Kayla you always want Canes." Emily took Kaylas wrist and pulled her through the crowd. "Hey Em!" A voice echoed. Ryan made his way toward the women. Emily's face lit up, while Kaylas held the same annoyed expression. "Leaving so soon?" He wrapped his arm around her. "Kayla you looked good up there!" He said smiling at her. She just looked at him, slightly uncomfortable "Party's lame, we're leaving!" Emily said wrapping herself in his arms. Kayla now even more annoyed pushed her way through the crowd "Sorry" she said as she bumped into someone. The smell of cinnamon and cedar tickled her nose. She quickly made her way to the door and down the stairs. Sweaty, overstimulated, and hangry she sat on the steps waiting for her best friend to return.
-
"There you are!" "What took you so long?" She stood up her arms crossed already knowing the answer. "sorry Kay, I was just saying bye to Ry Ry!" Emily dusted off Kayla's dress. "Bye my ass, I've been sitting out here for-" "not even five minutes. Stop being dramatic and get in the Uber." Emily said with a quiet chuckle. "I hate you" "I love you too"
