Life in the Rainforest

Starflight woke up in the morning and Fatespeaker was still curled up asleep with Nightfall. He was only a week old but he was walking all around the hut already. Starflight thought dragonets were energetic but that was his usual reading material. Starflight left the hut silently and went out into the Rainforest to hunt. He caught a boar and on his way home he made sure to pick up some blueberries, which were Nightfall's favourite fruit. When Starflight came through the door he set the boar on the table. Nightfall and Fatespeaker were up and Nightfall smelled the blueberries and ran over to his father.

" Daddy" Nightfall said pointing at the berries and Starflight put the berries on the ground.

" That was one of his first words" Fatespeaker said. Starflight looked at his son who was trying to put the whole blueberry in his mouth but it wouldn't fit. He tried to pick up the berry but it was also too big for him to carry. He rolled the berry over to Fatespeaker falling end over end on his way there. 

" Mama" He said grabbing her foot and tugging it at the berry.

" Sure darling" Fatespeaker said Cutting the berry and walking over and cutting the rest of the berries. Nightfall stuffed them in his mouth happily.

" You sound like Queen Coral" Starflight joked.

" I know" Fatespeaker said puffing out her chest.

 Starflight cut a piece of the boar and roasted it and set it on the table to share with Fatespeaker. Nightfall saw him do it and tried to roast his berries but nothing came out. Fatespeaker laughed and picked him and the berries up and fed him. For the next half an hour Nightfall moped around the hut.

" What should we do" Starflight asked. He hated to see his happy joy filled son, sad. 

" I have an idea just go along with me." Fatespeaker said.

" Nightfall, come to mommy" Fatespeaker said holding out her talons toward Nightfall who was sitting under the table. He got up and walked over to Fatespeaker.

" Do you want to go outside with daddy" She asked and Starflight opened the door. Nightfall's eyes went wide he had never been outside before. Starflight put his talons on the ground and Nightfall ran into them. Starflight lift up his son and walked out the door with Fatespeaker close behind.

" I'm going to go talk to Glory" She said " I'll catch up later."

" Let's go" Starflight said to his son who was reaching for the sky trying to grab it. Starflight walked with Nightfall in his hands until he found a spot in the clearing where the sun was shining down on them. Starflight set Nightfall down on the grass.

Nightfall felt the warmth of the sun soaking into his scales. He gripped the grass with his talons, he smelled the fresh air, for the first time ever and he loved it.

Starflight watched his son run around in the clearing. Examining grass, chasing butterflies, and trying to climb trees. After he wandered around for a bit he found a blueberry bush and started picking the lows one to the ground. Fatespeaker returned home after talking to Glory about their kids playing together when Nightshade got older. When she walked in the door to find Nightfall fallen head first in a bucket of blueberries eating away. Fatespeaker quickly lifted him up.

" Mommy " he said kissing her. " Berries"

" I see" Fatespeaker said " Starflight what's happening."

" Nightfall and I went outside and  picked berries" Starflight said coming out of their bedroom.

" Did you know he was eating them like Mightyclaws" Fatespeaker joked.

" Berries" Nightfall said.

" I think he likes them" Starflight said.
