I could feel my chest tighten as I stood in-front of the door of my first class; Chemistry. Normally I would be ecstatic to attend the class as it was my favourite subject but right now I could feel nothing but dread.
The bell had already rang about 5 minutes ago signalling the start of the period but here I stood shuffling my feet and doing my breath exercises. Half of me was tempted to make a run for the school's front doors but the other part, the more realistic side told me to stop being a wimp and to attend class.
With one last deep sigh my trembling fingers reached for the doorknob, the cool steel burned against my warm clammy hands, I twisted it and peaked my head through the gap.
The air inside was cooler than in the hallway and heavy silence greeted my ears. The teacher, an average height gentleman with greying hair and spectacles resting on the bridge of his nose looked over at me.
"Sorry for disturbing, but is this AP Chem?", I could feel my cheeks flood with heat as the whole class suddenly diverted their attention to me.
"It is, Miss..." he looked at me expectantly waiting for me to provide my name. I quickly entered the class and shut the door behind me before approaching him at the front of the class. I tried my best to keep my faux confidence and held my chin up as I responded.
"I'm Vivian Lock," the teacher smiled warmly and I could feel some of my anxiety dissipate.
"Welcome to our class Miss Lock. I am Mr Nelson and will be your teacher this year. Now, you should find a seat and I will start the lesson,"
I nodded and turned to face the class for the first time. My eyes scanned the classroom desperately looking for an empty spot. My jaw almost dropped open when I saw a large boy at the back, sitting in the corner furthest from the window. He was drop dead gorgeous, with short trimmed brown hair, broad shoulders and I swear he had golden eyes, eyes so similar to the ones I had seen this morning. He was smiling gently, a smile that contradicted his cold and intimidating exterior, he was almost hypnotising, no he couldn't be .
I snapped myself out of my daze and averted my eyes over to an empty seat towards the middle of the class. A boy of east-Asian descent smiled ecstatically at me as he scooted his stool over and took his bag off free stool. I returned a small smile of gratitude as I settled down.
I was taking my books and stationary out of my bag when he patted my shoulder drawing my attention to him. "Hi, I'm Eric. I'm head of the school newspaper and you Vivian are front page material, I can already see the headline 'Hot chick from Cali bringing some heat to Forks'," I couldn't help but chuckle.
"How do you know where I'm from?" I asked as I glanced over at the board to check what the teacher was writing, his back was turned to us and he was taking his time drawing benzene rings under the header "Arenes".
Eric chuckled, "I have my sources," I gave him a look telling him I didn't believe him at all. He groaned teasingly "Fine I met Bella before class, she told me there was another new kid. Seriously Fork's High School does not get Transfer students often, we were excited enough to hear that chief Swan's daughter was coming but now there's two of you. That's like double the excitement that the school has had for the past decade," he ranted.
I threw a glance back at Mr. Nelson to see him finishing up his diagrams, I had done this already at my previous school so I knew I could afford to be distracted in this class but Eric didn't need to know that. My social battery was on life support and I was afraid Eric would drain it completely before I got to meet anyone else or possibly get me into trouble for being disruptive on the first day.
"We should listen now," He pursed his lips and looked to the front.
"We'll talk later at lunch, promise?"
