AUTHOR'S NOTE: As the book goes on, we will begin to see two different POVs. The first is our main leading lady Galene. Now, we will begin to segment off her and to Ares. This is all needed for the fourth and final book, but it also gives the readers an insight into Ares. Perhaps you will love him more... or hate him. Either way, I hope I do this right and that it strengthens this story. It will also play a big role in the Fourth and Final book.
————————————————————————"Oh my gods! This is delicious."
I watch as Ian takes another mouthful of a po'boy. He then stuffs some onion rings into his mouth. He closes his eyes, savoring every taste. I giggle.
"This food is amazing."
"There is more food for you to try every day," I comment. "Remember how we used to have to hop from region to region to get different types of food? Well now, you can just drive down the street, and there are so many choices."
"How are mortals not fat," comments Ian.
"Well, some are, but it's all about control. They have to watch what they eat and exercise."
Ian looks at me, confused. I think back to when he was alive.
"Well, a lot has changed. Everything has become easier. Humans have restructured the world they live in to make it easier on them... so to speak. Now they have all they need and ample free time."
"Similar to the gods," replies Ian.
"Yes similar to us. One of the things they like to do in their free time is exercise. This means that they work up a sweat and do rigorous things for fun and to not get fat. They can play sports, lift, run, whatever they want to do."
Ian finishes his Po'boy and stands up. He looks in the mirror in the hallway at his body.
"I can't get over how I look." He comments. "Rather, I forgot how I used to look."
He walks closer to the mirror. I get up and walk behind him, wrapping my arms around him. I rest my cheek on his back. I feel his heartbeat, and I close my eyes. Warmth fills my chest.
"I look like I did when I was in my twenties."
His words reverberate in his chest and I feel them go through to me. He takes a deep breath and places his hands on mine. After a few seconds, he gives them a squeeze, and I feel his leave mine. They reach back around me as they roam along my sides. I smile.
"Two centuries apart and your touch still gives me warm feelings inside," I say.
Ian twists around. I make room but never break our connection. My head is now on his chest. His arms wrap around me. A sweet kiss lands in my hair, and feel him breathing in my scent.
"I wish I knew the passage of time and what it did, but to me, we just did this yesterday," comments Ian. "I just held you in my arms, and we went to sleep. All I did past then was dream."
"Were they pleasant dreams?"
"The best," he comments. "Although, never in my wildest dream would I imagine all of this would exist one day. Light at the flick of a.. what is the word? Switch! Cars, Sky boats -"
"They are called airplanes," I correct.
"Yes, airplanes..."
He pauses for a long time, and sweet kisses land on my head again. I bury my head in his chest feeling the strength of his muscles holding back the tears.
