My lips hurt from all the kisses. My body was not ready to relive memories from centuries past. Instead, we kissed, and I melted into Ian's arms. There, I felt my heart become full again as the weight of Ian drifting off to sleep held me there. Oh, how my heart could burst. The first day was spent holding him and loving him. We reconnected. Although the reconnection was more for my sake than for Ian's. We ate all the food and watched all the events that took place over time. Movies were something that fascinated him. The moving pictures where men become gods and perfection is copied in all forms.
"Humanity seems to always be the key element of the films which flows like the springs hidden deep under the earth."Ian's comment is a reminder of how beautiful his mind worked and how easily it was to fall in love with him. It was effortless.
Now I watch him sleep blissfully studying every curve of his body. Every speck of his skin and every tiny detail of what makes him unmistakably him.
How I wish I could stare at him all night. How I wish I could hold him. I climb out of bed perhaps using a little extra goddess power to levitate. He never stirred.
My heart ached to crawl back into the bed with him, but I knew I needed to leave him. It will only be temporary.
The thought was ever present in my mind as I repeated it over and over again. I take one good luck at him. I keep my eyes locked on him as I use my goddess powers to fade into another place.
I feel the ocean air hit my face. My eyes adjust from Ian to the pillars and steps that greet me. The familiar neon-lit sign flashes closed.
I open the door anyway making my way into the kitchy little place which once used to be so prestigious. The marble floors polished until they shone like a mirror have been replaced by red carpet. A gift shop with an iron gate greets me on the left. I look over at it wondering what china-made merchandise is suitable for an oracle to sell. I hear the drip of a water fountain as I ponder the things that promote this place for sale.
"Can I help you?"
A guard sitting behind the welcome desk eyes me as he speaks in a firm tone. His feet are propped up and his phone is still held high in one hand.
"I am here to see the Oracle of Delphi," I reply.
"We are closed," replies the gate guard looking down at his phone. "Come back tomorrow."
"That won't do," I reply. "I will see her now."
"Look, lady," replies the guard plopping his feet down and stomping them firmly in the ground. "We are closed and nothing will change that."
He sits back down and looks down at his phone. Clearly, he has made his point and his answer is final. However, I have no time for finalities.
I pull the water from the dripping fountain using my goddess power and hurl it at him. The very impact sends him flying backward off his chair. I stifle a giggle as I watch him sputter pulling up to his full height. With wide eyes, he assesses the current predicament he has foud himself in.
"I am so sorry, goddess lady... ummm," he stutters as he takes a deep bow. "I didn't know.. I mean, let me go get her right away. - Please! accept my most sincerest apologies for not knowing."
He takes off running down the hallway. I watch him disappear around the corner leaving a trail of water droplets.
I walk over to his stand and look at his phone. I shake my head disapprovingly as various TikTok videos scroll by. Of all the things mankind can invent, why this?
