I awoke to my father shaking my arm, "Clyde, it's time to get up, breakfast is on the table." he said gently. I sat up and stretched until my leg nearly cramped. I put my best shirt on, my good boots and put a mask I wore outside the village in my satchel. We ate and I fed the horses before we saddled up and headed to the Cunningham residence.
We got there at roughly noon, and I realized how different my life was from the girl I met just a day before. She had a woman by her side constantly and wore elegant dresses from places i had never known much about, they lived in a large house with rooms for their staff and still enough room for guests. I wore my mask into the yard so the staff wouldn't see my face, and took the horses to the stable.
My father was about to knock when the door opened. "Mr. Baker! A delight to see you!" it was Lord Cunningham, "why does your son hide his face? It is to be celebrated." "I didn't want to scare the staff sir."I responded simply. "Nonsense dear boy! Come in and show your face!" I did as told, stepped in, my father right behind me, and took off my mask. Some of the staff gasped and I was a little embarrassed. Soon Joanna came down the stairs to greet my father and I.
"This is my daughter, Joanna."Lord Cunningham smiled, she was wearing an elegant sun-gold dress that was tied into a bow in the back, her hair in a low bun. "Hello Mr Baker!" she smiled. My father smiled happy to see the look on my face of trying to stay cool but failing, "Hello Joanna, this is my son Clyde." he smiled, I couldn't speak, i was so astonished i couldn't make even a small squeak. We were eventually led to the dining room where we were given sandwiches, salad, and soup. I was seated right next to Joanna, and once seated our fathers immediately began talking about what they do. Joanna and I ate silently as we listened to our parents. "So, Clyde, where do you stand in the village?" I perked up at hearing my name,"I help around town sir." "And what, might I ask, do you help around the village.", I saw my father smile, "Well sir, i built the fence, fixed the golem, and anything else that people need me for." I started just loud enough for Lord Cunningham to hear. "What a marvelous boy!" he exclaimed to my father."Now, Joanna Darling, would you take our young guest on a tour!" Joanna smiled at her father's request, "Sure, come with me Clyde." We both made our way to the first main room, though I was skeptical about leaving my empty plate but the butler kindly signaled for me not to worry about it."So this is where you are to reside for the weekend." she smiled "The weekend?" I asked, stunned. "My dog can't go without food the whole weekend, he'll go after a few sheep if he's not fed." "You have a dog? Oo! What's his name?" she smiled, "Nico. I am sorry but I can't leave him home alone for more than 2 days, including today." I said gently, "non-sense, I'll come with you to get him! Just gotta let daddy know we'll be back in a couple of hours!" she chimed, grabbing my hand and running to the living area down the hall. "Daddy, Clyde's dog is still at their abode, May we go fetch him?" "As long as Clyde is there to protect you, yes, I'll make sure a bath is drawn for Him." she grabbed my wrist this time leading me to the stable. We mounted our horses and headed to the village. On the way back with Nico we had to stop through town to get Nico some food and a bowl since I only grabbed his harness, travel pack and Nico himself, but I had left my mask at Cunningham Manor meaning the townspeople wouldn't be too happy.
"Get out of here freak!" "You don't belong here murderer!" "Go back from whence you came!" are only the regular insults I hear suddenly i felt a sharp pain in my side and fell off of my Horse, Celest, and joanna turned back to look at me then screamed, Nico was soon at my side resting his head on my left side, his white fur stained red, i was bleeding, no, I was Shot, the arrow was on his right side just below my ribcage. "Clyde are you alright? What the heck is wrong with you people?!" "Never mind that Joanna, go get our fathers, It's a minute run for the horses, GAHh." she jumped on her horse without hesitation toward the manor, Nico would growl at anyone who came close while keeping pressure next to the arrow, someone's sword sliced my eyelid but that was bleeding more than the arrow wound. Barely 3 minutes of screaming later Joanna, Lord Cunningham and my father stood by me, Joanna had a hand on my father's shoulder as my father held me in his arms putting pressure on the spot Nico had been. Lord Cunningham had sent for a doctor who was on his way as everything began to fade to black. "Clyde, buddy, stay with me!" I heard my father as I went into the dark, then Joanna spoke up, "It'll be ok, just stay strong for us." then it was all black.
