" I hate being the new kid..."
- Brooke Evans

Third Person Pov:

The hallways were filled with the clamor of students who were making idle chatter and rushing to get to their classes on time. Amongst the crowd was Brooke, who was rushing to get to her class on time. It was her first day at her brand new school, as she's been homeschooled the majority of her life. The idea of being surrounded by so many people all at once was overwhelming to her. Finally, she'd found what appeared to be her locker and quickly imputed her combination to stuff her books inside, slamming it shut. She let out a heavy sigh and read her schedule to see which class she had to attend first, which was English. This revelation made her feel visibly ill because English was her least favorite subject and she was awful at it. However, knowing that was going to be late in the next 5 or so minutes, she quickly gathered her things and headed towards her first class of the day and seated herself in the back. As the lesson began, she could feel like someone was watching her as her eyes darted around the room.

While the lesson continued to drag on, Brooke heard some voices that were barely just above a whisper on the other side of the room. From her peripheral vision, she could see a group of girls who were all giggling and whispering to each other. Before she would have thought nothing of it, she heard the mention of the words "new girl" from their conversation and figured they were talking about her. However, she wasn't just going to assume so and faced forward to focus on her teacher's lesson, half of which she'd missed from listening in to those girls talk about whatever it was they were whispering about. The teacher, who noticed that Brooke wasn't paying attention suddenly yelled out her name and asked her to repeat what she just said. This made Brooke freeze in her seat, causing her to stutter and not focus on the task at hand. Her teacher sighed and excused her to collect herself outside until class was over. Brooke quietly thanked the teacher and exited the room, sinking to the floor by the door.

Brooke's Pov:

Once I left the classroom, I let my body lean against the wall, before sliding down onto the floor. My head rested against my knees as all I could do in that moment was cry. It's only my first day of school and I already have people talking about me and gotten into trouble with a teacher. "I hate school." was the only thing I could think of at that moment as my tears continued to roll down my face as I cried silently. The next thing I knew, the bell had rung signaling the end of class. I watched as multiple students walked out of the classroom, the last to leave was that group of girls, who noticed I was crying in the hallway.

They stopped in their path to observe my situation. My face was stained from crying, my eyes were puffy and red, and the only form of speech I could come up with was incoherent sobbing. The girls looked back and forth between each other and back at me before they started laughing. "Aw, the new girl is crying on her first day, how pathetic." said a girl with blue hair, her eyes were a piercing pink as they gazed directly at me. Her expression seemed to be mocking me. Before I could even process the situation, the girl grabbed me by my hair and forced me to my feet. My eyes met her as she spat in my face. Her next words were laced with poison. "Listen, new girl. I make the rules around here. As long as you obey said rules, I won't have to make any drastic moves, right?". I nodded my head frantically and she quickly released my head and disappeared into the crowd of students, her minions following behind her, except one.

She looked at me with a sympathetic expression and held out her hand, offering to help me to the nurse's office. I looked at her, my face clearly expressing my anger. I quietly told her no thanks and left to find it on my own. The halls were crowded with numerous people all rushing to get to their classes or were just loitering around doing nothing. Finally, I find the nurse's office and head inside. The school nurse greeted me with a smile and asked me to sit down. "Hello, my name is Ava and I'm the school nurse. It is a pleasure to meet you. What's your name?" she asked, after introducing herself. I looked up at her and told her my name and she just smiled at me.
