"I DON'T EVEN know why you like him. He's not all that," I tried to convince Kim as we sat on the bus ride home, the rhythmic hum of the engine providing a backdrop to our conversation."Nymir, that man is literally perfect. His skin is flawless, like it's been airbrushed by some Hollywood makeup artist. He stands tall at 6'4", not overly muscular but not too skinny either; he's the perfect balance of fit. Those veins that pop out of his arms when he flexes – they're like a work of art. And his teeth, they're pearly white, like they belong in a toothpaste commercial. And don't even get me started on those dreads. I swear, he's got it all. And, well, I already know that dick is huge too," Kim gushed, her eyes sparkling with infatuation, and I could feel my heart sinking further.
My eyes is literally twitching.
Kim didn't know that Jaden was someone I used to talk to, and once again, Jaden had warned me not to tell anyone about us. It hurt to listen to my friend brag about the guy I used to talk to, the guy I still wanted to talk to.
"I think you could do so much better," I finally managed to say, struggling to find the right words, even as I tried to convince myself.
"Just stop. That boy is mine, and I'm never leaving him," Kim declared, engrossed in Jaden's Instagram page, scrolling through a collection of envy-inducing photos.
"How did you two even meet?" I asked her, curiosity piqued. She sat up straight, a radiant smile on her face as the bus came to a stop. We gathered our things and got off, heading home together.
"Okay, so he was in the neighborhood one night after school on the first day. He slid into my DMs, asking to hang out, and the rest is history," she explained, her voice tinged with a dreamy quality, and I could feel my heart shattering even more.
WHAT THE FUCK. On the first day after school?!?! I couldn't be hearing this right. He had been with me that day, kissing me, telling me he missed me. And not even a week later, I found him kissing my friend?
"He's lying to you! He's not a senior, and he doesn't have early release. How could he have early release if he's a basketball player?" I protested as she shrugged her shoulders, still blasting Rihanna's hits from her phone's speakers.
"I really don't care about what that man does anymore. He can do no wrong in my heart," she said, dancing around, her enthusiasm undiminished. "You're the one that I think about all day!" She sang along to Rihanna's lyrics.
