1 week later
I sat on the hospital couch waiting for the doctor to come back with the news while Quinn finally got some rest.
"Well, we've finally targeted the problem." The doctor came back into our room.
"Well, what is it?" I asked nervously.
"Quinn's amniotic sac is very weak. When she had her other miscarriages, blood leaked, but this time toxins were released that were very fatal. We can give her fertility proteins to strengthen the amniotic sac and can finally carry her full term for her next pregnancy. But I must warn you, Quinn is extremely fertile, strengthening her amniotic sac could mean multiples." He told me.
"When can you give her the proteins?" I asked.
"Any time you want." He shrugged.
"Can you give her the medicine without telling her what it is so that she'll, you know be surprised?"
"Well, as a hospital, we always have to tell the patient what we're giving them." He pointed out.
"Just say they're .. proteins to rebuild a very important organ." I idealized.
The doctor chuckled. "Okay, Mr. Makani."
He said, walking off.I went back into the room and waited for the nurse to come in with the medicine and wake Quinn for a moment.
She tapped my wife to wake her up and give her the shot.
"Quinn, honey? I'm just going to give you a simple shot, it's going to hurt, okay?" She's said, rewiping the needle.
"Mhmm, why do I need the shot?" Quinn yawned, sitting.
"Well the shot is to rebuild proteins and to strengthen a very important part of your body." The nurse sugarcoated the procedure while preparing to insert the needle.
"Okay." She rubbed her eyes. "Hi, Zayne!" she drowsily waved.
"It's the medication," The nurse laughed.
"Yeah, so when do you think she'll be able to be released?" I remembered to ask.
"Ehh, about 2 or 3 weeks." she tilted her hand. "Not long, but we're still trying to run some tests on her to find out exactly how she's still alive." The nurse summarized.
"How long will it be before we can try and conceive again?"
"The same amount of weeks, two or three. You should be successful this time around."
"Hopefully," I sighed.
"And I'm so sorry for the loss."
I looked down and stared at my fingerprint on my thumb instead of continuing to make conversation with the nurse.
Out of all the "I'm sorry"'s and looks of sorrow, it surprised me that I really didn't care anymore.
