August 1st 1914

2 days ago they declared war. I cannot deny how frightened I am, but at the same time at I feel somewhat safe in the safety and privacy of my home. I know very well that this feeling might vanish as the days go by...

They reassured us that the war will be over by Christmas. No one knows if it'll be true, but we hope because hope is all we got.

Oh, I got too caught up with the war thing that I forgot to introduce myself to you, dear diary..

My name is Henry Watson, I'm 23 years old and I live with my grandparents in the south of England near Bosham. I'm an orphan. My father died first due to hard labour and my mother followed him after a couple months by a heart attack, so I had to leave my home in London and move with my grandparents at the age of 18. Well, I'm now 23 so it's been over 5 years now.

In my 22nd birthday my grandma bought me this diary to document my life or just plan things out. However, I never used it and this is basically my first ever entry. Perhaps I'll keep the habit of writing something everyday...

Alright, that's all for today.

Your Henry
