Capitulum 1: 2006
"Please tell me you're joking," she groaned as she approached us. She looked pretty. She always did. Her golden hair was French-braided to perfection.

My mother looked at her and smiled,"I'm joking." I knew all too well she wasn't.

Kiara just couldn't contain her excitement, "Really? Thank you!" Saying she was pleased would be an understatement.

My mother gave her a flat look, "No, I'm actually quite serious. In fact, I'm so serious I will ground you if you don't go."

Kiara let out a prolonged groan and stomped off, muttering under her breath. I felt bad for her but at the same time I didn't understand why she was making such a fuss, she was usually the peaceful one.

"Mom you know it's okay, Kiara doesn't need to go. She was really looking forward to going to her friend's party. I don't mind," Luke pleaded. He tried to act as if it wasn't a big deal, but I could feel his disappointment.

"Jasmine? Did you hear what I just said?" All eyes were on me. I blushed and shook my head. My mother smiled and my brother snickered.

"Sweetheart, you're supposed to go wear the dress that grandma gave you and please don't wear sneakers again. Got that?"

"Yeah, but do I have to wear a dress? I mean, they NEVER look good on me." My mother frowned, she wasn't particularly fond of disobedience, especially from her daughters. She was already upset and I wasn't exactly helping.

"Minnie, you always look beautiful, remember that. I love you and you are my little princess. Kiara too. My little beauties. Honestly, when I got you two I never thought I'd be getting my two princesses!" She chuckled and I smiled. My mother had dimples and when she smiled, they would emerge lighting up her face. Her blue eyes were sparkling making her look like an angel.

"Now go and get ready. Make sure you get Kiara to smile, she seems a little grumpy. Tell her that she will be allowed to go to the party after the ceremony but, only if she is on her best behavior."

I nodded and started up the stairs, I hesitated as I held the doorknob but when I heard the faintest sound of music, I smiled and went in. Sitting on her bed strumming the guitar gently, she turned to face me. I was relieved to see that her face showed no sign of tears.

By then, I was already dressed. I was wearing a similar dress to hers, yet she looked prettier. Kiara was older than me. She was 12 years old, while I was 7 years old. Despite the age difference, we were always very close. I knew all her secrets and I'm probably the only one who knows everything about her. She is also the only one who knows everything about me.

Kiara stood up and smiled. Her dress was closely fitted at the top while it flowed freely from the waist downwards, till her ankles. Her dress was sky blue with little ivory colored appliqués on the top and an ivory bow at the side of the waist. She was wearing a beautiful tiara on her hair and beautiful white ballerina flats. Overall, she was dressed to kill.

My dress was similar in fact the only differences were the color (my dress was mint green with black appliqués, the hair ribbon and the fact that her dress had one strap where as mine was strapless (much to my dislike).

"All done," she said as she smiled at me, " You look really pretty." She had finished tying the bow on my dress.

"Thank you, Ki you look really beautiful. I wish I was as perfect!" I pouted and she laughed.

"Jazz you're perfect, I always thought you were prettier than me," I shook my head furiously but I didn't push the subject.

We had two hours to spare and I was starving. So was everyone else...
