This shift at the 118 is.. slow. For lack of better word due to a suspected curse. Eddie thinks he feels it the most. The almost-complete silence filling the loft area of the station. He's acutely aware of Bobby humming a David Bowie song, and Buck watching Tik Toks on the other end of the couch, and the whispering and laughing of Hen and Chimney on the stools next to Bobby.

Eddie is desperate to break the silence that's only awkward to him. "Hey, Buck." Buck snaps his head up. Eddie continues, "You free tonight? I was thinking since we have a forty-eight hour break after this, you could come over and hang out with me and Christopher."

"Oh, sorry Eddie, I actually have a date tonight." Buck confesses, face turning red as he realizes the rest of the station is suddenly looking at him.

"Oh." Eddie responds blankly, blinking his eyes. He genuinely can't remember the last time Buck had said the word, 'date' in that context. His heart beats fast and almost angrily as his face flushes as well. Hen walks over and leans against the back of the couch, Chimney following but not leaning.

"Who's the lucky person, Buck?" Hen asks, flicking her eyebrows up and down suggestively. Eddie focuses on the coffee table in front of the group of four.

"Yeah, Buck, how come we haven't heard about this before?" Chimney pushes. Eddie wants to leave the room, his eyes burning.

"Ah, well, it was kind of last minute..." Buck trails off.

Eddie doesn't bother to listen to any more of the conversation, instead standing up and walking down the stairs to find the locker room. He hardly notices he's in there until he's sitting on the bench, messing with the laces of his boots. Turns out it's really hard to pretend not to notice that he was angry his best friend was going on a date instead of hanging out with Eddie. And Christopher, of course.

Eddie's eyes keep burning, and he finally blinks to get rid of the sting, but it takes a while for the pain to go away. He holds them closed for a few seconds, then feels a tear slip out of one. He takes one hand off of his boot to wipe the tear, raising an eyebrow. "Why am I tearing up?" He asks aloud.

"Why are you tearing up?" The question is repeated from behind him, surprised, he turns around and meets Bobby's eyes.

"Oh, hey Bobby. You scared me." Eddie chuckles awkwardly, turning back to his boots when Bobby sits by him.

"You walked away when Buck said he was going on a date. Why?"

"I didn't realize you saw." Eddie unties his laces, working on tying them again.

"Everyone saw, Eddie. They paused the conversation because you walked away with tears in your eyes. I don't know if they saw the tears, but I sure did." Bobby looks at Eddie worriedly. Eddie finishes tying the laces, turning to meet Bobby's eyes.

"I swear this has never happened before. I don't know what's gotten into me."

"I think I do. Let me try something."

"Woah. What are you trying."

"Trust me, Eddie, please." Bobby gives him a reassuring look, and Eddie hesitates, but he nods. "Eddie, her name is Laura." Eddie's eyes start to sting again, he swipes at his face. "She's Buck's exact age, and apparently they match "star signs?"" Bobby uses air-quotes, hoping he's saying that right. Eddie's face starts to burn. "They've been talking for a month." Bobby finishes, though it looks like he might have more to say. Eddie stands up furiously.
