Y/n awoke when the Batmobile pulled out of the alleyway. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, yawning and stretching.
"Good, you're awake. I'm glad you were able to get some rest." Batman spoke up, seeing Y/n in his rear view mirror.
"Where are we going?" Y/n asked, watching the streetlights as they drove past.
"We're taking you to GCPD. The commissioner would like to speak with you. He's hoping to bring the men that treated you like that to justice." Batman answered. "From there they'll find you a place to stay."
Y/n rested her head in her hand and gazed out the window. She sighed.
"What's going to happen to me?" Y/n asked, not looking away from the window.
Batman and Robin exchanged a glance.
"We don't know. Hopefully the Commish can find you a foster home or get you to an orphanage."
A tear slipped down Y/n's cheek.
Robin pursed his lips in concern seeing the girl's tortured facial expression. He leaned over to his partner.
"Is Bruce Wayne in the market for adopting a daughter?" He whispered.
Batman smiled slightly at Robin's question.
"I'm sure he has room for one more." He answered.
Robin's face lit up, his smile growing from ear to ear.
"Don't worry, Y/n. I'm sure everything will work out." Robin said cheerfully.
"God I hope so." Y/n whispered to herself.
The rest of the car ride was silent. Y/n was lost in thought for most of the ride. She worried about what might happen to her. She had no known relatives.
Y/n sank into her seat, again feeling completely alone.
"We're here." Batman spoke up. Robin helped Y/n out of the Batmobile, being sure to stick by her side. She was no doubt nervous, in fact nervous might've been an understatement.
The duo led the girl up to the commissioner's office.
Gordon's face took on an expression of relief when he saw that little girl walk through the doorway. They had succeeded. She was safe.
The GCPD and the Dark Knight had been working around the clock to track her down and plan a rescue, and they'd done it.
"Hello, Y/n, my name is Jim Gordon. I'm the police commissioner." Gordon got down on his knee to her level. He spoke sweetly, "I have a few questions for you if you don't mind talking with me."
Y/n nodded. She knew of Gordon but had never met him. Her father would often talk to her about how he "hates his guts" and wishes he'd "never teamed up with the Bat." He'd go on long rants about how it made it hard for him to find work. These rants were usually accompanied by waves of anger that would fester until he became so angry he had to let it out. It would be much worse on the nights that he was busted by the Bat. Those nights Y/n would try to hide or sneak out of the apartment to avoid being beaten.
"Please take a seat." The commissioner continued, "We are aware you were blindfolded and were forced to wear a headset that prevented you from hearing, but is there anything definitive about your captor that you can remember?"
Y/n thought for a moment. She nervously picked at the torn fabric of her pants as she tried to recall.
"Well I know that there was more than one man. There would be days when I was sold and transported around and given to different people. I remember the man that I would always be returned to had large, rough hands." Y/n thought some more. She anxiously bit her fingernails and paused for a few moments.
