Seb's POV

I can't believe Carlos asked me to homecoming. I'm so excited. I head outside to where my mom is waiting, smiling bigger than I have before. I get into the car.

"You look happy," she comments.

"Carlos asked me to homecoming."

"Honey, that's great!"

We arrive at home and sit down to dinner. The meal passes in comfortable conversation. After dinner, we head our separate ways. I head to my room to get ready for homecoming. I'm dressed and ready to go when my mom calls out.

"Seb, come here quick!"

I rush downstairs.

"What is it?"

"It's daisy. She's worse," she says. Daisy is one of our cows. I run with her to the barn. Daisy is laying down, hardly moving.

"Is there anything we can do?" I ask.

"I don't think so son. Not besides comfort her," my dad says.

I start to move towards her, but my mom stops me, "Sebby, your suit." Right. I head back inside and quickly change. I pull out my phone to text Carlos.

S: hey, I'm sorry. something came up, might be late *unable to send*

Damn, no reception. I sigh and put my phone down. Daisy passes an hour and a half later. I sit with my mom and younger siblings while my dad and older siblings bury her.

"Sebby, don't you have a dance to get to?"

"It doesn't seem like I can go now. I'm needed here," I say.

"Of course you can," she says. "Go get ready, I'll drive you."

-Time skip-

I arrive at the dance to see Carlos dancing with a large group of people. I smile. Ashlyn notices me and points me out to Carlos. He approaches me.

"I'm so sorry I'm late," I say.

"Are you alright?" he asks.

"One of our cows has been sick. She got worse and passed away tonight," I explain. "I tried to text you but we don't have great reception."

"Oh Seb, I'm so sorry."

"At least our ties match," I say, smiling slightly.

"Do you want to go somewhere to be alone?" he asks.

A slow song starts to play. "I want to dance with you."

He wraps one arm around me and places his other hand in mine. We start to twirl around the dance floor and he holds me close. We hang out with the theatre kids and dance during the slow songs. The dance ends and we head outside together, holding hands. He laces our fingers together. I turn to look at him and he leans in.
