(Set in The Deathly Hallows)
It was your turn to stay up and watch over the tent as night fell, casting a dark shadow across the vacant land. You had been sitting cross legged to begin with, but had changed positions constantly throughout the night. There was a dull fear in your chest as you stared out into the distance, worried that death eaters would find you and your friends any minute now.
Your grip on your wand tightened as you heard a sound, the sound of shoes stepping on the ground, coming closer. You prepared yourself to fight, when the tent door zipped open behind you. You whirled around to see Ron standing there, hands up in surrender. You realised you had been pointing your wand at him.
"Scared me half to death", you said, lowering your wand. You turned back to the dark forest. Ron started to close the tent again. You looked over to see Harry and Hermoine fast asleep. They had been your friends since you shared a train compartment with them the first day of school, and had been inseparable ever since. Sitting here with Ron, seven years later, it made your head spin. Time flew by. Especially all the near- death experiences you had gone through, your life had flashed through before your eyes too many times to count. It taught you to appreciate every moment...you only lived once.
And yet despite all that, after years of hiding it, you had never confessed your feelings for Ron. You had the biggest crush on him, your stomach tightened every time you looked in his direction, wanting desperately to hold his hand and be his.
"You'll never know unless you tell him", Hermoine had said. Both her and Harry constantly pushed you to make a move, but you never did. You were too scared of ruining the wonderful friendship that you had. Besides, there was no way in Merlin he felt the same way.You looked over to your left, where Ron sat with a hard face, staring at the trees. "Why aren't you asleep?", you asked quietly, noticing how odd noise sounded after it had been silence for so long.
"Couldn't. I've been listening to that radio for Godrick knows how long", he replied stiffly.
"Maybe you should take a break from listening to that thing. It's not doing you any good".Ron didn't look at you, instead playing with the Horcrux necklace around his neck. "And it would do me good to not listen to it? And I miss if they announce the death of Fred, George, Ginny, Mum..? " he listed off his big family. "That's a stupid suggestion".
You ignored his harsh comment when you realised he was still wearing the necklace. "We need to destroy that thing", you said.
"Yeah. Would be great if Dumbledore had told us how".Silence.
"Maybe you should take it off".
"What? And risk losing it?".
"I'll wear it".
"Oh, great. You to the rescue again".
You blinked. "What?".Ron still didn't look at you. "Don't "what" me. You know what. You're always the saviour. Harry's the Chosen One. Hermoine's the smart one. And you're always there to save the day".
You made sure not to raise your voice too much, considering your other two friends were still asleep. However, you couldn't help it it getting a little bit louder. "What?! What are you on?"
"Oh, please. Using that spell to kill the troll in the bathrooms? Figuring out how the baslisk could move around Hogwarts? Helping Harry open that dragon's egg? I could go on and on, but point is, you're always there to be our save and grace. Just this once, can you not be the hero?"Ron spat at his last words, not bothering to keep his voice down. "Ron, take the necklace off", you begged, not wanting to fight with him.
Ron stood up angrily. "I can make my own decisions! You're not my mum! Oh, Merlin, Mum...I need to find her..". You stood up as well. "Don't be ridiculous!", you said. "There are death eaters in every corner. You can't fight them on your own".
